Pros: Exterior styling, ride, ruggedness
Cons: The seats - the weave has come lose twice, but the dealer replaced the seat covers.
Advice: Buy it, drive it thru the mud, go off roading. It ROCKS!!!My husband and I purchased our 2004 Nissan Xterra brand new in 2005 (left over stock). We were having issues with a Pathfinder we bought a few years before, it had horrible transmission problems, and we needed to be done with it. We drove the Xterra and fell in love. I personally LOVE a truck feel, versus the luxury SUV feel. I always worried about towing the boat with our Pathfinder, and it wasnt a very rugged vehicle for putting around in the mud up at the lake. The Xterra is GREAT for towing, you can get it muddy, even on the inside, and clean it up with no problem. We love it!!! We have had NO problems with the vehicle thus far, and I lOVE driving it, everyday, to work and back. The engine isnt a very powerful one, but sometimes, that can be a good thing, especially when you have a lead foot like I do...It does have a bouncy ride, which is great if you really WANT a truck, but need an SUV for family reasons....I wouldnt trade my Xterra for any other SUV in the world, well, maybe except for a NEW Xterra some day....I highly recommend it for the active family looking for something rugged....Warning: the weave on the seats seems to snag easily, which is definately a draw back, since this is supposed to be a 'rugged vehicle'. I recommend getting some type of seat covers immediately, to preserve your seats...Especially if you have kiddos...
Pros: Cd player even though it skipped once in a while
Cons: Shifting in to gear and squeaky break noise.
Advice: Its a waste of money dont buy it.Car is to noisy, takes to much gas, hard to shift from gears and to expensive for that price...
Cons: The awkwardness of getting in the back seat.
Advice: You can really get out and do things with this SUV!Our family loves the xterra. We checked out many SUVs and we really liked the price. If your looking for an SUV that you can actually do outdoor things with than this is the one. I was pleasently supprised by the ride. I was always told that it didn't ride good. It is a little bouncy, but we wern't expecting a luxury ride. This is not a fluf SUV, you can really feel confident in taking it off road. We are looking forward to testing the limits of our new Xterra. It had us from the test drive!
Pros: the ruggedness
Cons: engine is not very powerful
Advice: if you want a rugged SUV without paying a lot, consider it.I bought the 4-cylinder version of the Xterra for $15,000 brand new. What other SUV of this size and presense could you get for that price? It feels solid, the visibility is excellent, my back-seat passengers love the stadium seating, the CD player sounds great, it's fun to drive... I'm a totally satisfied owner.
Pros: The whole SUV.
Cons: Not much leg room in the back seat...
Advice: Don't plan on offering a tall person a ride home..As soon as I got in I wanted to purchase the Xterra... Then the drive made it SOLD....
Pros: Stereo, price
Cons: No standard side airbags
Advice: Just test drive itI loved it as soon as I started the drive. It drives well and is a fun vehicle. I drove home with it and can't say enough good things about it.
Cons: rear access
Advice: only children in the backThe other ratings are not accurate -- never took it out on the road. The back seats were so horribly akward to get in and out of that I never would want to put my friends through that. Manuvering the door, vehicle height, and narrow access. The driver's seat was very hard to adjust. The stadium seating is interesting -- but wouldn't the passengers be in the driver's view? It felt too truck-like without even driving it.
