2003 Nissan Xterra

2003 Nissan Xterra - XE (M5) 4x4
Pros: Off Road Capability
Cons: Stock Tires/Replaced with Adequate All Terrains Immediately
Advice: Drive it, both on and off road, and you'll love it.As you're reading through these reviews, try not to pay attention to the people complaining about gas...they bought a V6 truck, what did they expect? Another note, the 4x4 features of these trucks are incredible. People just need to learn how to drive them off road. Skill replaces ignorance everytime. If you want backseat room, buy an Armada or Pathfinder, if you want a dependable, quality, on and off road vehicle, get an Xterra...period.
2003 Nissan Xterra - SE (A4) 4x2
Pros: The Ruggedness
Cons: Did not come with Thule Racks
Advice: Test drive it..you'll enjoy it as much as I did.The test drive was awesome. I absolutely fell in love with this vehicle as soon as I drove it. I had never owned an SUV before, so I was kind of sketchy about the gas mileage, but so far so good...
2003 Nissan Xterra - SE (A4) 4x4
Pros: The styling of the vehicle.
Cons: Poor gas mileage.
Advice: Open your wallet wide at the gas pump.I purchased my brand new 2004 Nissan Xterra 4 x 4 last March. The styling of this vehicle with the tubular roof rack is the best of any small SUV. The vehicle handles well and has plenty of leg room for a guy like myself who is 6'3' tall. Best cargo space in its class. The only drawback is the very poor fuel economy. I am forever pumping gas. Overall, I do not regret my purchase. This is an SUV meant for an active lifestyle.
2003 Nissan Xterra - SE S/C (A4) 4x2
Pros: Style and performance - Best looks of any SUV
Cons: Gas Mileage - I'm lucky to get 13mpg city and 14mpg highway.
Advice: Think about what you needOverall great vehicle. I've owned one for 3 years (2002 SE/SC), and am very pleased. Only 2 problems in 3 years (charcoal canister leaked into gas line somehow, stereo had an issue with steering wheel controls - both replaced by warranty). What it lacks is a better sound system and a navigation system (and 4x4). With those additions (2004 has the better sound system already), I'd buy another to replace my current. The worst part is the gas mileage. The worst I've ever experienced - just as bad as a Hummer - the poster child for supporting the oil-producing world.
2003 Nissan Xterra - XE (M5) 4x4
Pros: Appearance and handling ( Prior to accident )
Cons: Quality of the Interior,) seats, knobs, buttons, handles, ect.
Advice: Just because there is a firstaide kit don't assume that everything else like glove box light ,vanity mirror.lighter ,ash tray, and in my case fog lights are going to be there..Looks great, holds the road and is tight on the curves, and the price is right, until the problems start. My problems began with the 3,000 service,my concerns about oil on the front wheels and vibrations that I felt should not be happening, were just blown off and I was told that it was operating as designed, 2wks later I was involved in a 3 car accident due to my brakes failing.I like the concept of this truck and it's appearance, but I don't think that between the fuel consumption, rental fees, and just plain frustration on trying to get Nissan to make this right, that this car is worth anywhere near the amount of money that it has cost me. Get rid of the fabric on the seats,(thin and cheap) probably won't last another 6 months.I bought this vehicle to use it like they show it being used on their commercials, please do not attempt this at home.
2003 Nissan Xterra - XE (M5) 4x2
Pros: Body appearance
Cons: Gas mileage
Advice: Get ready to fuel up...This vehicle is definately built for off road use. If you are a soccer mom this is not for you. I found that it rides a little rough (I have since been told the factory 35 psi in the tires is way too much, stick to 30-32 psi)and the 3.3 liter engine is a bit small for such a big vehicle. However, the appearance is outstanding, and it makes you feel right at home taking it to go hiking or mountain biking. I think people interested in this vehicle should have to take a quiz, and if don't get out in nature at least once a week, you shouldn't be allowed to buy this truck!
