Pros: Quality of the manual gearbox
Cons: Stupid roofrack - all looks, no function.
Advice: Excellent off-road vehicleI take my Xterra off-road quite a bit, so off-road performance was one of my chief considerations. It is certainly gutsy enough to handle some of our exciting mountain roads here in BC, although I would like better engine braking when in 2nd gear in low range. Limited slip diff is great. Only off-road complaint is clearance - I have bottomed out in a couple of places that a Toyota 4Runner had no problem with. Love the manual gearbox, the gearing is great except that pesky low range 2nd. It handles very well and is reasonably comfortable on a long road trip. The removable rear seats are a bit chintzy; I wonder how durable they will be over the long run. The switch for the rear wiper is hard to find at night. Lots of storage space for firewood and hiking boots and so on, and I like the fact that the rear door keeps you dry when you're loading the vehicle in the rain. The pull-down for the rear door is great, too. I took off my gear basket - a silly feature, and lots of dirt collects under it. It's very difficult to load 2 kayaks on the roof rack, and the vehicle is right at 7 feet with kayaks loaded. Overall - highly recommended, solid off-road performer.
Pros: I got the 'Shock Blue' color they no longer make and I love it!
Cons: Rear windshield wipers have only 1 speed.
Advice: Test drive it!!!I love the way it drives. I found myself 'wanting' to go on short store runs just to drive the X. It handles very well in rain, snow, dirt, mud, you name it.
Pros: Power outlets
Cons: Seats - don't feel they are very durable
Advice: I don't know that I would recommend due to all of the problems I've had.Love driving the X-Terra and love the look...but wish I would have gone with Supercharged. Unfortunately, I have had several problems with the window regulator motors. Each window motor has gone out, rendering my power windows useless. Sometimes, even stuck completely down. No recall, I've just had it into the service department SEVERAL times for replacement. Not too convenient.
Pros: Supercharge Engine Pkg
Cons: Mileage (listed as 15-18, averaging about 16 w/premium gas)
Advice: Go for the supercharge - it's worth itSupercharged engine made all the difference. Go for this option if you have the $'s. Test drive w/reg. engine was somewhat lacking. Supercharge engine strong and responsive. I got SC option with 5-speed manual, and each gear has improved operating range. Handles real well, but suspension is a little bouncy compared to my '93 Pathfinder. Stereo system kicks. I like the 6 disc CD, and steering wheel controls. Body styling is way cool. The sunroof option requires you to remove the roof rack basket, and only provides limited visibility. Overall, extremely satisfied and a good value.
Advice: Buy it!!!We bought a 2001 Xterra in September 2000. We just traded it in on our new 2002 SE/SC. What a difference a couple years made. This new model is sweet. It's twice the value and comfort. The supercharger makes a major difference in performance. Not the fastest SUV around, but no problems getting on the freeway or passing them Toyotas.
Pros: I like the space in rear. Plenty of room for whatever you want.
Cons: Gas mileage. I am only getting about 12 miles to the gallon.
Advice: Great vehicle overall except for the gas mileage.Runs smooth, good acceleration, manuvers well.
Pros: The LOOK
Cons: Gas Mileage
Advice: Test drive !!The Nissan Xterra is a great vehicle to drive; however, it is a little costly on fuel. The Supercharger model provides instant torgue and runs smooth. Auto-transmission is also smooth.
