For the new model year, the Sentra gets slightly updated styling and increased standard features without an increase in price. Review specs, features and mpgs of the new 2010 Nissan Sentra to determine if it offers the total package you're looking for.
New 2010 Nissan Sentra Styling
The conservative approach to the Sentra's exterior styling isn't likely to turn many heads. However, for those who care more about function than form, the Nissan Sentra is appealing enough to meet the needs of the average daily commuter.
On the inside, the Sentra shines with an excellent combination of interior comfort, available features and interior volume. Despite being classified as a compact car, the Sentra is one of the few vehicles in its class to adequately accommodate five full-sized adults. Front seats are especially comfortable, with an excellent contour for back support and good headroom.
In terms of quality, the Sentra's low price comes at the expense of a few hard plastics. However, given the long list of standard features, the Sentra is a lot of car given the price. Standard features on the base Sentra include air conditioning, stereo with CD player and auxiliary jack, power windows, power locks and a 60/40 rear split seat. For added features, shoppers can choose from five different upgrade models.
The Sentra also benefits from innovative storage capabilities. There are plenty of cubbies and in-cabin storage options from which to choose. Trunk space is good at 13.1 cubic feet, and a "Divide-N-Hide" feature is also a nice touch.
New 2010 Nissan Sentra Performance
There are quicker compact cars on the market for the year. However, the driving dynamics offered by the Nissan Sentra aren't likely to raise more than a minor quibble or two from the average driver. The base engine for the year is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that musters 140 horsepower. For more power, shoppers can choose from a 177-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder and a zippy Spec V engine that outputs 200 horsepower. If you want a vehicle that starts with a stronger engine, then take a look at the Mazda MAZDA3.
In terms of fuel efficiency, the Nissan Sentra stays competitive with class leaders. Models outfitted with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) earn an EPA-estimated 26 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway (29 mpg combined).
New 2010 Nissan Sentra Safety
Available safety features for the Nissan Sentra include six airbags, antilock brakes, stability control and traction control. In crash tests performed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the 2010 Nissan Sentra earned the highest possible rating of "Good."
New 2010 Nissan Sentra Pricing
The new 2010 Nissan Sentra comes with a base price of $15,420. This pricing is competitive with the vehicle's closest competitors. Those interested in the Sentra should also take a look at class leaders such as the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla. For an even better standard features list at a lower price, the Kia Forte serves as an enticing alternative. The Volkswagen Jetta, while more expensive, offers improved interior luxury and a more powerful engine.
