05 Nissan Maxima SE
Pros: secure feeling
Cons: turning radiusWow, what a car! Very quick, decent handling, great features (well equipped), no problems. Downsides - huge turning radius, requires premium fuel, suspension alerts you to every single pebble in the road.
Pros: the engine performance
Cons: This car is not reliable to own and expensive to maintain.
Advice: Avoid this carI purchased this car brand new at the end of 2001. The car has excellent acceleration, very comfortable, and reasonable gas mileage. The model I purchased had the Bose CD changer audio system which had problems from the time I purchased it and the dealer would not replace it claiming there was nothing wrong with it. A couple months after the warranty expired, the Mass Airflow sensor went out. After researching the problem on the web, I discovered this was a common problem, but Nissan wouldn't cover even part of the $700 to fix the problem. As time went on, the car would experience other problems with the bearings and suspension. Now I am not an aggressive driver nor do I race the car around corners, so I have to assume one must drive this car gingerly. I have a hard time understanding why this car has so many problems before the first 10 years of ownership. My previous car, 1989 Acura Integra, that I purchased brand new that never had anything go wrong with it and only needed general maintenance (oil change\timing belt changes @70,000 miles, tires, etc). I never replaced the bearings or other engine parts during the first 5 years of ownership. I wouldn't recommend this car to anyone unless they don't mind having to pay for expensive repairs every year.
Pros: The power & speed
Cons: What is there to not like?
Advice: Buy it if you can find it!I love my Maxima! I just bought it this week after looking for exactly what I wanted for the past 2 months! I traded in a Honda Accord (yeah, the same silver one everyone has) for this beautiful, powerful, smooth GLE with only 15,000 miles on it! I have owned a Maxima before, and never had any problems with it. The ride is quiet and feels like you are gliding. The system is awesome, and it has the luxury car feel (I have the leather/sunroof pkg). I also drove a 2004 Infiniti G35 that I loved, but the engine was basically the same, and the Max is more cost efficient for the package you are getting.
Pros: wonderfully quiet fast engine
Cons: awkward drivers seatbelt holder
Advice: as it is the sports model make sure it has NOT been flogged!!Excellent paint & body. Smooth ride, excellent pick-up & roadholding.
Pros: the whole car
Advice: buy itI just recently traded in my 2004 vw jetta on an 2002 maxima GLE, now your probably thinking why go down 2 years w/ more mileage, the reason being, this maxima is one of the nicest autos iv test driven, my 04 jetta couldnt hold a candle to it, so i traded it in now im in love w/ my new car...
Cons: the ride
Advice: If your main interest is speed this is the car. If it is ride, buy something else.Rides rough. Has rattles. very good pick up speed and cornering. CD stopped working and they wanted over $1900 to replace it, outragious! avg. 26 mpg, but runs on preium gas.
Pros: have to love the heated steering wheel!!
Cons: lots of air/wind noise from sunroof
Advice: get the GLE version-extra luxuriesAn incredubly fun car to drive! Lots of power....all 255 horses. Unfortunately, I have owned this car for 22 months and have had a few minor issues. My sunroof leaks in the car wash, and now my BOSE 6-CD in-dash is skipping and acting horribly. The dealer replaced the stereo system last week and it continues to skip and stop playing in the middle of a song! I am starting to lose faith in Nissans/Infinitis.
