With a mark of just 7:08.679, the 2015 Nissan GT-R NISMO is, of course, the fastest "volume production car" to ever lap Germany's Nürburgring race track, at least in its current, almost 13-mile Nordschliefe configuration. But now folks will finally get to see how Godzilla stacks up against some motorsports competition on the 'Ring, since the automaker's NISMO racing division will run a pair of 2015 Nissan GT-R GT3 racecars at the upcoming 24 Hours of Nürburgring endurance race from June 21-22.

Said Darren Cox, global head of Brand, Marketing & Sales for NISMO: "The Nürburgring 24 Hours is a special event for Nissan. To compete at the Nordschleife will be a very proud moment for everyone involved as we think about the long line of road specification GT-Rs and now the GT-R NISMO that have grown up there. It is important to show our fans and customers again that there is cross over between road cars and racecar development at Nissan. There is no better evidence of that than the Japan-based NISMO engineers' huge commitment to this global effort."

On the other hand, there will be an international team of drivers behind the wheel of each 2015 Nissan GT-R competition car, including two who will be making a homecoming of sorts: Nick Heidfield, also a judge for the German edition of Nissan's GT Academy, and Florian Strauss, handpicked by Heidfield to go from the automaker's virtual racing contest to a real-world track over the course of just eight months of training. Joining the Germans in the No. 80 2015 Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 racer will be past GT Academy champ Luis Ordonez and longtime Nissan pilot Alex Buncombe. Driving the No. 20 car will be Michael Krumm and Kazuki Hoshino, from Japan's Super GT series, as well as Katsumasa Chiyo, part of the NISMO Global Exchange program, and veteran endurance racer Tetsuya Tanaka.

A third GT-R racecar will be campaigned privately in the race by Schulze Motorsport.

And remember, beginning July 31, 2014, the 2015 Nissan GT-R NISMO production car, boasting 600 hp and 481 lb.-ft. of torque, will be available at local U.S. Nissan dealerships, with an MSRP of $149,990.
