Pros: Bose Six CD In-Dash Changer
Cons: Shocks are a bit stiff
Advice: Opt for the ABS option with side curtain airbags and tracion control.Eventhough I tried to remain a loyal owner of Honda vehicles, my last car being a '95 Civic, I decided to take a chance and go with the new Nissan Altima. I did consider the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry which was comparable in size and features, but the style, power, luxury, and additional features of the Altima won me over. It's been over a month and so far I've been very happy with this car. The power of the 240-HP V6 is phenomenal, especially when I was use to driving a 102-HP 4-cylinder Civic. Even after a test drive of the new Accord V6, the Altima still has an edge of 40 horses. The ride, for the most part has been smooth, but when going over the occasional bumps and potholes, the shocks are a bit stiff. The handling is downright amazing, especially when merging with highway traffic or changing lanes. The sleek, new design of the car is a perfect balance of a luxury sedan and a sports car. The aerodynamic shape from the low profile headlamps to the stylish round tail lamps, is a creative departure from the mundane and dated look of many other sedans in it's class. Of course, the new Toyota Camry finally has a fresh, new design, but still not as dramatic as the Altima. The interior is very sleek and comfortable. They went with a minimalist design scheme that looks sporty, ergonomic, and extremely functional. All the controls are within easy reach and very intuitive. If that wasn't enough, the steering wheel controls for the audio and trip computer give you more functionality then similar controls on the Honda Accord's steering wheel. The Bose Six CD in-dash changer is definitely a 'kick ass' system. There's no cassette deck but who needs one these days. The ABS with side curtain airbags and traction control were part of an option package which is well worth the money for added safety. ABS comes standard on the Accord but without the extras I mentioned. I think my only major complaint is that many of the extra features require you to buy certain other options (i.e. you have to get the leather interior in order to get the automatic climate control). I opted for the traditional cloth interior which isn't too bad as long as you don't mind cleaning the car more often. One thing would have been nice is the option of a DVD Navigation system like the new Maxima, but perhaps they'll offer it future models. Maybe, they just needed to add something to the Maxima so that it didn't get lost in the limelight of the Altima. I've actually had people on the street come up to me to tell me what a great looking car it is and how they're thinking of getting one. I've even seen people taking a peek at my car while it's parked at a restaurant. I've never had anyone do that before! That kinda tells you what a great car this is. Despite the reputation and high resale value of the Honda and Toyota, I don't think you would get the same kinda reaction for their sedans.
Pros: The Bose Stereo system... incredible sound!
Cons: Leather seats too smooth and vinyl looking, more texture needed.
Advice: Drive this car last, first the 4, then the 6, you probably won't go any where else.I have never had any desire for an Altima, but this car changed my mind. I drove Camry and Accord V6's first and when I drove the Altima, I thought I had a 6, but it was a 4! I was concerned about the 4 handling the hills in our area, but no problem! Passing...A breeze. The exhaust is a little louder than I would like. But the Bose is a lot louder! Handling is great! The car is a joy to drive. Lots of room inside too. I sometimes regret not getting the 6, but that is just testosterone talking.
Pros: Exterior looks
Cons: Defects, cheap interior feel
Advice: Wait a couple of years before buying, inspect CAREFULLY when buying for defectsThis will be the car you love to hate, and hate to love. Good power, good handling, great looks. But lookout for the defects: radio static from ignition coil, thumping sound from gas tank, and the engine makes a fairly loud vibration sound in gear between 2500-3500RPM when cold. These problems have been only partially addressed by Nissan. Interior is comfortable, but plain and has a slightly 'cheap' feel. I would wait a couple of years to buy this model...
Pros: The style of the car
Cons: The trunk hinges
Advice: Skip the Accord, Camary, and all the others. Nissan scored big with this car. This car is the quickest four cylinder that I have ever had the privilege of driving. The car handles great, and is comfortable. I would recommend that you keep your money and get the 2.5 S with the convince package or the 2.5 SL. Skip the basic Altima, because the extras give it class.
Pros: It's amazing new styling
Advice: Drive and compare the 2.5L and 3.5LI was thrilled when I first encountered the new Altima! I had been considering more expensive options and was amazed to find out that I could get a gorgeous car with all of the options I was looking for. I first drove the 2.5 but was sold when I took the 3.5 for a spin. I love driving this car! Nissan should have renamed this car because it is worlds away from last years model. Bravo, Nissan!
Pros: Xenon headlights
Cons: Absolutely nothing
Advice: This is a great car. If you like cars that are sporty, have killer styling, and the economy of a V6; this is the car you want.I'm a father of 2, so I needed a car with room, practicality, and good looks. At first, I was going to buy a Honda Accord, then Nissan exploded with the 240bhp Altima for 2k2. I was blown away by the styling so I just had to have one. I got this killer deal from Star Nissan in NYC, so I test drove it and bought it the next day. So far, after 2 months, it has surpassed my expectations about an import. It's so fast, people have asked me if it's a turbo or on Nitrous. I just tell them no, it's brute force from Nissan.
Pros: The engine
Cons: The taillights, but they have grown on me.
Advice: I love this car!I love this car. Don't bother with the V6, the 2.5 is plenty powerful and with the V6 you need atleast 91 octane gas. Passing in this car is so fun! Excellent on gas. Also roomy and comfortable. Beware-it is very expensive to fix, I was in an accident at 3000 miles:(, nearly 6000$ to fix what should have been about 3800$. I rented a Malibu while it was in the shop and couldn't get over the difference. I missed my Altima!
