    2005 Volkswagen Touareg - V6

    Pros: none

Cons: Not being able to drive it.

Advice: Do not buy a VW. Horrible experience.

I purchased a 2006 V6 Touareg on Jan 4, 2006 after driving a 2004 Touareg for 2.5 years. The vehicle has been in the repair shop 23 of the 40 days I've owned it. Please do yourself a favor and don't purchase this vehicle. Dealings with VW Customer Care and the arbitration department are akin to K's struggle at The Castle.

    2005 Volkswagen Touareg - V8

Pros: Sport Mode on the Tiptronic Transmission, Extremely luxurious, BMW / Mercedes Beater!,Excellent acceleration

    Cons: Gas Consumption

Advice: Don't be scarred of 2004 Touareg reviews - everything is outstanding now!

I purchased my VW Touareg V8 after doing a lot of research and testing all the competitors (MB ML 350, Landrover LR3, BMW X5, Volvo XC90 V8). The Touareg impressed me the most with the excellent handling (you can do 60mph round a tight bend and feel totally in control), excellent handling, superb V8 engine, lots of cool technology and excellent VW customer service - Of late, VW have taken a real hit with the customer service, but they must have learned, because the service I received was exemplary. I only have 600 miles on the clock, but it must be said that the VW drives like a dream. My only minor complaint would be the use of too much technology - The front and rear sensors are excellent, but can cause nervousness at times, as they go off even when you are 3ft away from an object! The only other thing would be the gas mileage, which is actually better than the XC 90 V8.

    2004 Volkswagen Touareg - V8

    Pros: comfort

    Cons: quality

    Advice: everything

God help whoever spends this money for this suv. I have a 2004 V8 - numerous electrical problems, tires that cost $1200+ for four and VW service that sucks. I'm stuck with a vehical that cost way too much for the problems I've had and the service I receive. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!

    2004 Volkswagen Phaeton - V8 (A6)

    Pros: navigation system

Cons: tyre pressure system warning lights up when not always needed and has to be reset by VW

    Advice: buy it!

My first impression was WOW and so was my second and third and so on... I love the fact that there are not too many on the road and I get such a kick over people distorting themselves as they drive by to get a better look! Unfortuneately, I did not purchase this car- my mother did, a month before she was diagnosed with lung cancer. After she passed, my father gave it to me. My mom really did have great taste!

    2005 Volkswagen Touareg - V6

    Pros: Comfort

    Cons: MPG

    Advice: Lease before you buy

Have had this vehicle 4 months and love the comfort and drivability. It's solid, safe and carries a hefty load as well as having a fine sound system. (Loaded 100, 13 pound blocks in the rear and never knew it as we drove down the road.) I have a problem with the air bag alert coming on but it takes a download fix I have been in for once already. Need to go in again. I recommend leasing before you buy. Pretty complicated compared to many other SUVs.

    2004 Volkswagen Touareg - V8

    Pros: Great looks

    Cons: Overly complicated controls

Advice: Look beyond the beauty and ride and read as many reviews as you can.

This is my 5th SUV and in my opinion, the Touareg is over engineered to the point where it's dufficult to manufacture and operate. The Nav controls are numerous and it's c/d based which, makes it about 4 years behind the SUV's VW is trying to compeate with. The SUV is absolutely beautiful, inside and out, and rides very well. In a dealer showroom, and after a test drive, it's tough not to highly consider this vehicle. But, once you have one its shortcomings and oversights become apparent. An oil & filter change at my local VW dealer recently cost me $160. (oil, filter and labor only!) My local Jiffy Lube doesn't carry the filter so they couldn't do it. As pretty as it is, I can't recomend it.
