You can familiarize yourself with one of America’s fastest-growing vehicle brands by checking out all of the new Subaru pictures on display here at Autobytel. But while you’re doing so, remember that these stylish new designs are just part of the brand’s advantage. Subaru also has a longstanding tradition of offering even its compact and midsize sedans with symmetrical all-wheel-drive technology, which offers notable grip benefits over the traditional part-time AWD systems more often used by mainstream automakers.

The brand also boasts its own preferred powertrain configuration, relying on boxer-style engines with opposed pistons. The compact and lightweight units provide a lower center of gravity in a wide range of the choices shown in these new Subaru pictures.

Oh, and if you’re wondering why all the vehicles look like stars in the new Subaru photos, here’s a possibility: The automaker’s name comes from the Pleiades star cluster, called “Subaru” in Japanese.

Per the story on Subaru’s global website, Kenji Kita, the first president of the automaker’s parent company, Fuji Heavy Industries, wanted to move into automobile manufacturing in the mid-1950s. It turned out, though, that building a prototype proved to be easier than picking a name for the vehicle. When no one in the company could come up with a moniker he liked, “Mr. Kita gave the car a beautiful Japanese name that he had been quietly cherishing in his heart—Subaru.”
