Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: Interior space
Cons: some rattles
Advice: test oneLike the other reviews, I recommend buying one used - intial depreciation is grave but not bad afterwards. The Montero is my wife's car but both of us like it. She likes it because it has every bell and whistle, a huge sunroof and the driving position is awesome. I like all that plus it is incredibly roomy, and tackles all my towing jobs with aplomb. It is weird that this vehicle is not more popular - doesn't get good reviews from the mainstream (except reliability) so the sheep don't test it. If you need an SUV, go test a nice used one. First car I ever owned where a couple of rattles don't bother me because the car is so nice inside.
Cons: Sunroof and DVD together as an option, currently you choose one or the other
Advice: Buy one usedJust went to the LA auto show and sat in every mid-sized suv in production. We went to the show leaning toward the Honda Pilot, then we sat in the Montero. After walking back and forth between several suv's we were sold on the quality, comfort, and features of the Montero. We test drove the Pilot, Pathfinder, and Montero and in our opinion the Montero was far superior. I keep hearing the 'professionals' complaining about lack of power...I just don't get it. The Montero has more than adequate power. We took everyone's advice and bought a used 2004 with low miles and avoided the depreciation factor. We just love everything about this car. After researching for two months, we're really glad we did not heed the advice of the professional car critics. I'm still wondering what the heck they're thinking. Test drive one for yourself.
Pros: Fit, finish, ride quality, reliability, and handling.
Cons: Spare tire placement.
Advice: Drive it !This is a fantastic car/suv. We researched quite a few mini van and suv's, but none offered as much or drove as well for the price. Simply put, nothing came close. I do not work for Mitsubishi, just up late with nothing to do and decided to offer my thoughts on a great suv, for all those considering. I just discovered, while reading editorials, it has a larger engine than previous years. It is fast and nimble, I could not imagine anyone needing more power. It handles great and rides better. My kids love the car, especially the dvd player, and my wife said it is her 'favorite' car ever. I realize you might read this and sense my review has been greatly influenced by my childrens and wifes comments. Please understand I have owned many, many cars since passing my drivers test 28 years ago. This is my favorite to date. I cannot understand why the editorial reports do not mirror 'owners' sentiments. It really is a fantastic car/suv that I would recommend without reservation.
Pros: standard features including huge sunroof.
Cons: yellowing tire cover
Advice: Get one used to save depreciation!I love this SUV. I is well mannered in the city and also does serious 4x4 as well. I was following a Jeep wrangler up Devils Slide at Ocotillo Wells in Southern Cal. desert. I kept up with him except I was in the comfort of heated seats and leather. I love the tiptronic when 4x4 as well as traction control, AWD in the rain. Tighter turning radius than a Honda Accord and great visibility. Our friends that have a Acura MDX said that they wish they had our truck (of course they paid 40K). The only problems I have is 1) The white painted spare tire cover is yellowin and 2) The A/C bearing is sounding like it might be going bad. I will make sure both problems are resolved before my warranty period expires. Ask any montero owener you see - these are great cars and you dont have to fork over $$ just for a name.
Pros: everything as a package...for the $$$, nothing comes close...
Cons: gas milage, but it is not too bad for 4x4 SUV.
Advice: Pls research..Mitsubishi pajero in the WEB and you can see what this truck is about.I love this truck...I traded in my 2004 Nissan Maxima SE which had every option available...My new Montero is much smoother ride, and what surprises me the most is that it is easier to get around in parking lots...Maxima was fast, but very rough ride and turning radius sucks....Montero is awasome..Is just too bad in so under appreciated here in the USA....In other country's this is the king of SUV's....Look at CNN, you will probably see a Pajero, which is the name for Montero...Montero is sold in over 170 countries...It has won many France/Daker races....awasome...Montero is the hidden jewel of SUV in USA.
Pros: Multiple 4x4 & 2x4 Gear selection HLC, LLC
Cons: Gas Mileage per gallon
Advice: If you need POWER - buy this - but it will cost you in FUEL. You're rich anyway!I always like to buy one - but the price is really high. Thanks for second hand marketing - I finally have one. It is worth every penny, and now that I own one - I see why its very expensive - this is one powerful machine. I have taken it in very challenging slopes in San Francisco & the sorrounding cities - it did not even blink - it handles each and every slope as if you're in even ground. Wow!
Pros: The 4x4 system and off road ability, and cargo/passenger space, plus folding/stowable third row seat.
Cons: The lack of aftermarket accesories.
Advice: Take it for a test drive and find out for yourself, and find some gravel roads and use 4x4 if you canAfter driving it prior to purchase i was impressed. I am 6'5' so i have the problem with small windshields and the roofline being right in my line of view. My first impression getting in it was 'Whoa, I can see out the huge windshield'. So that is big plus for taller people. My first impression was that it was decently powered. I mean if you want Sports car performance, go buy one. This is a 6k pound SUV. I don’t expect it to do 0-60 in 5 seconds....It has plenty of power for merging onto traffic at freeway speeds and also passing power. The cargo room is awesome. If you want to have plenty of space you can take the 3rd row seat completely out and then you have the compartment that it usually folds in and also on top of that. Also you can comfortably fit 3 adults in the second row and stash two kids in the rear comfortably. I love the space compared to other SUVs. The main reason we purchased this was the third row seat that many other companies’ don’t offer. Well Ford does but in my opinion American Made vehicles are not as reliable as foreign...but to each his own opinion. I have been off-roading with it in the sand dunes and various other places and it is an outstanding SUV off-road. The traction control feature is spectacular and I have yet to get it stuck. Climbs like a mountain goat and in 4wd Low Range has plenty of power and torque for anything you can throw at it. I have yet to drive a vehicle that i feel as confident off road as this. With some 285/75/R16 Mud tires its unstoppable it seems... I would recommend this to anyone I see. I have been very impressed overall with it. After all I will leave you with one question. Which vehicle has had numerous wins in the Paris-Dakar Rally Race?? The Pajero(Montero). That should be convincing enough. No dodge vehicle, ford vehicle, or Chevy even comes close....hmmmm I wonder why??
