Great Sporty Sedan
Pros: Overall engineering (design and performance)
Cons: hard plactics in passenger space.ES Sport with over 14,000 miles, mostly highway includes 2,200 mile vacation to WA & OR, O/A 30 MPG. It loves to run around 75MPH. Quick, agile, and firm on the road. CVT works well but requires some getting used to as no manual downshift to 2nd gear is available. Engine braking in low is limited to slow speeds but in drive the computer adjusts for driver habits and selects proper engine RPM for desired performance. Braking and overall handling are excellent. This car replaced a 2002 Lancer ES sedan and is worlds ahead in safety and upgrade features including sound system, moonroof, bluetooth (as yet unused), keyless entry and operation, and full down rear windows. Has had zero maintenance issues.
Pros: Comfort, Safety, reliability, less target for theft.
Cons: Fuel Economy is well below it's competitors.
Advice: Buy it if comfort and safety satisfy you. If you're looking for good Fuel Economy it's not the car to buy.The lancer drives very well. It's as quiet as any of it's competitors, as corolla, etc. It soaks up most of the bumps with minimum effect in the passanger car. It's engine, a dohc with Mitsubishi Innovative Valve Timming and it's continuously variable transmission both work to perfection. I've had two prior generation lancers and they all were highly reliable, with minimum repairs and breakdowns under severe use. The car is very safe and sturdy - uses very strong steel. The only flaw is that the epa fuel economy is already below it's competitors and below the prior generation lancer 2006. And when you drive it - it seems like it's below the epa estimates also.
Pros: Combo NAV computer/HDD/Sirius sat radio
Cons: Engine power output w/ CVT tranny
Advice: Good buy for commuting, but don't expect to have a blast driving it.I owned the 04' Ralliart Lancer before, and traded it in for the 08' as soon as I saw it on the lot. The car is feature packed for the cost, as long as you get the GTS model with the NAV package. The technology keeps you occupied on long drives to work, while the comfort level keeps you happy when you get there. The only downside is that the CVT version of this car feels downright anemic when you step on the gas. It takes it's time to get moving, but once it gets up and running it hums along easily. Would recommend.
Pros: The style of the vehicle
Cons: The accelerating problem
Advice: Since ther have been no recalls on this vehicle for the problem that I experienced I would check to see if anyone else has had this problem before I purchased it.I purchased my vehicle in 2003 and was happy with it's performance up until September of 2005. On three different occasions I experienced the car making a funny noise and accelerating on it's own. I took the car to have it serviced and was told by the service repair person that no one had ever reported having a problem of this kind. Since I have had the vehicle repaired I do not feel comfortable driving it. I bought all new tires because I was told that my two front tires were starting to bald. It appears as though the car could be idled too high or something. Since I do not know that much about cars I have no idea what the problem could be. If Mitsubishi does not know what is wrong with it there would be no way that I would even have a clue. I had my vehicle serviced by Mitsubishi in September 2005. I was told that the vehicle was due for some computer upgrades which may or may not have caused the problem that I experienced with my vehicle. All I can say is since I have had the car serviced it still feels as though it is accelerating when I am trying to slow down. I am now in the process of trying to pay off the vehicle so that I can trade it in for another Make/Model. Before this problem arose I had anticipated trading my Lancer in for the new Eclipse. I guess that I do not have to tell you that Misubishi will be losing me as a customer.
Pros: Looks good and fun to drive.
Cons: Its not a Ralliart
Advice: Spend few more dollars for RalliartI bought my car with 32 miles on it, it now has 28,000 with no problems at all. It is the 5-speed and lots of fun to drive. Color is yellow w/black interior, always getting complaments. I get 34 mpg on hwy, change oil 3000 miles and does not use a drop. It is not a true sport compact, but economy car with sport options, and with that in mind does very well. Independant supension give nice ride.
Pros: interior and enigine
Cons: Suspension, lack of security system
Advice: Economy is the ES and OZ, and Racy is the Ralliart.I've had my 2005 Lancer Ralliart for a little over a month now and I love this car. Its upgraded engine, body styling, and interior makes it a notch above the economy ES and OZ Rally. The 2.4l engine has enough zip on the freeway to make passing and merging a breeze. Th interior, with the black w/red fabric is nice, and the seats are very comfortable. However, the suspension is very stiff so you will feel the rocks and dips. But the superior handling makes up for that.
Pros: The poweful Engine
Cons: A little too much engine noise, but I think thats the point with the ralliart.
Advice: If your considering the OZ rally, ante up to the Ralliart. Base models are still great.Test drove this car and quickly fell in love with it. Great handling. My story is that I got to the dealer originally interested in an SUV. This dealer had both Mitsu and Hyundai on it. Tucson was a little high priced. Dealer noticed I already owned a Mitsu Eclipse and noted about owner loyalty incentives. Looked at the 04 Lancer OZ rally first which I thought was the top of the line car but then he said that the Ralliart was. Ralliart had ABS, CC, suped up powerful engine. Great handling, awesome look, outstanding features. Best part was since it was an 04 and I already owned a mitsu, the dealer gave me an insane deal, almost 6000 off MSRP! An orignally 20,000 car dropped to 14 just like that. The warranty was outstanding as well, 10 year power train, 6 year bumper to bumper. Plus a 3 year free maintanence package. Just an offer I couldn't refuse. If you have a dealer in your area selling 04 Lancers, the incentives are out of this world, even better if you already have a mitsu. Didn't get this car just for the price, it has so many features and so much power I would've bought it without the rebates. Loved my Eclipse, nothing wrong with it and would've lasted me another 10 years, this Lancer will most likely last that long if not longer. This is a car I will keep for a very long period of time, I plan to run this thing until it falls completely apart. Mitsubishi makes great quality cars and they always seem to put more power in their engines than others. The ralliart Mivec engine hums like a v8, very nice. A definate buy. Also had the pleasure of test driving the evolution, it was way out of my price range but if you got 30K, a definate buy. Overall, get the ralliart package, much more fun to drive. I'm not sure why they even offer the OZ rally, its only 1 or 2000 less and has half the features, worth more to get the ralliart. If you want to go value then the base models don't have much but they still got 150 hp which is nothing to ignore at for 14k. Comparing. Mazda 3 has half the features and not as much HP, yet still is priced about the same not as many features as the Ralliart. My wife has an 05 Toyo Corolla S model don't have as much power but are better priced if I had to compare the Corolla XRS is very similar to the Lancer Ralliart but a little more expensive. Honda Civic EX is just not even in the same league.
