    2006 Mazda MAZDA5 - Touring (M5)

    Pros: Gas mileage

    Cons: Leg room

Advice: test drive it and you will buy it.

The Mazda 5 has plenty of power and fun to drive. The sliding door windows that go down are a nice touch. It has alot of nice features for the price. The only down fall to me is the lack of leg room in the drivers seat. I'm 6'1' and my knees hit the center console. Also my Wife was complaining of the missing arm rest on the passengers seat. Other than that we are very satisfied!!

    2006 Mazda MAZDA5 - Touring (M5)

Pros: Interior layout with seating for up to six

Cons: Lack of interior choices--Black in 100+ degree summers is not fun!

Advice: Move the seats to get all possible seating arrangements

The positives: All seats easy to fold down to expand the load capicity, seating for 6, fun to drive and a great looking car, consistent 20-24 MPG, loaded with standard safety features, moon roof. Minor irratants: Higher than average road noise at high speeds. Seats up to 6 why 8 cup holders?? Lack of interior color choices. Front passenger seat needs armrest. Inability to turn back interior lights from the front a little frustrating at times. The storage between the front seats has a small tray. It holds almost nothing and whatever is held there rattles around evey time you open the lower compartment lid.

    2006 Mazda MAZDA5 - Touring (M5)

Pros: Agile handling, plenty of zoom, quiet and smooth.

Cons: Not sure 3rd row seats are worth the tradeoff in cargo space.

Advice: Big guys: watch out for very tight pedal spacing.

A pretty good ride, surprisingly nimble and car-like for the size. The interior is very creatively and well designed, I thought. The fold-out table between seats 3 & 4 is a nice touch. The 3rd row seats are more robust than I expected, although the seat backs didn't seem like full height. Quality seemed very smooth and solid, including an insulated hood and smooth cockpit controls. My wife and I compared this with a Matrix/Vibe and the one sticking point against the Mazda5 was the fact that moving up from 4 to 5 passengers, no matter how small they are, forces you to open up the 3rd-row seats, effectively negating your luggage space. We figured that, with a growing family, our standard load in next few years is going to be right near that 4/5 breaking point. For us, the Mazda5 has neither the massive space of a minivan (where you just throw stuff in) nor the smaller utility of the Matrix/Vibe (where, with a little space planning, all your stuff fits). Another note, maybe useful for bigger guys with large/wide shoes (I'm 13-wide myself). I found that with my right foot on the gas pedal, my winter boot very easily got stuck between the center console (on the right) and the brake pedal (on the left). For some reason, they designed that space to be very tight. I thought that would be risky and potentially dangerous for me during winter driving. I'd recommend taking your bulkiest boots along for a test drive (ignore the smirks - it's worth it). :)

    2006 Mazda MAZDA5 - Touring (M5)

    Pros: Styling/Affordability/Convenience/Features/Uniqueness/Value

Cons: Disappointingly high fuel economy for a 4-cyl. I have a light foot and averaging only 20mpg on mixed city/highway.

Advice: If you stayed away from minivans, but always wanted the versatility and convenience, this is for you.

Excellent looks and handling for a 'mini-mini van'. Power is adequate from the 2.3L 4cyl with the 4-speed auto. Great sliding doors and lots of features for the money like automatic climate control, power moonroof, spoiler kit and 17' mags on v-rated Toyo rubber. Versatile interior with lots of storage areas and full folding flat seats to provide a flat cargo load. Tight cargo capacity when smallish 3rd seat is up, but most of the time, the third row is folded flat to use its cavernous cargo area.

    2006 Mazda MAZDA5 - Touring (M5)

    Pros: INTERIOR

    Cons: RELIABILITY

Advice: BUY 2ND GENERTION OF THIS VEHICLE

DO NOT BUY THIE FIRST GENERATION OF THIS VEHICLE!!! MY WIFE AND I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE AND THE TRANSMISSION STARTED GOING OUT ON THE WAY HOME AFTER LEAVING THE DEALER. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED AND IT WOULD BE A MONTH OR TWO BEFORE WE WOULD GET A REPLACEMENT FOR IT. AFTER MUCH COMPLAINING AND NEGOTIATING MAZDA IS GOING TO BUY THE VEHICLE BACK. WE ARE GOING TO GET A HONDA ACCORD.

    2006 Mazda MAZDA5 - Touring (M5)

Pros: Value, Japanese Made, High quality interior and build quality, unique passenger vehicle!

Cons: Honestly have no issues! Could use another 25 hp!

Advice: Look at Honda civic, Susuki Ario, Toyota Matrix, Scion, Focus, etc first...you'll pick Mazda5!

Considered all minivans,PT Cruiser, FreeStar, HHR including a Mazda MPV...liked this Mazda5 better! All the safety stuff, looks, room and value. Love the sliding doors. Impressed with quality and pricing. Have the Touring model, much better value than Sport, especially when you add up options like the moon roof, 6 disk in dash cd, etc. Dealers selling at list, no rebated or haggling...but got $500 off with Costco auto deal! Alloys and rear spoiler, body color mirrors and side sills and fog lights of the Touring model really make it good looking. Lots of curious people asking questions! Steve
