2002 Land Rover Freelander - SE

Pros: Solid feel of the vehicle.

Cons: Inability to adjust driver seat height.

Advice: The S may need some additional upgrades so the SE is your best value.

Don't let the small size fool you, this vehicle is ALL Land Rover. Extremely solid feel on or off-road (the vehicle weighs about 4500 pounds--about 1500 pounds more than the base model Ford Escape) yet it is nimble and responsive and its smaller size is perfect for driving in the city. The driver's sight lines and visibility are superb. The well-designed interior (with the exception of no armrest between the driver and passenger seats) and the 60-40 split of the rear seats allows for plenty of room for passengers, cargo and storage. In my opinion, Land Rover has wiped out the competition in the small SUV market with the Freelander.

2002 Land Rover Discovery - SE

    Pros: Comfort, security and safety

    Cons: fuel ecomomy

Advice: Test drive one, you won't believe how nice it rides and the dealer (Greenboro NC) was the nicest I've ever dealt with

This is the best vehicle I have ever driven. It sits up high giving you a commanding view. It feels safe and performs fantastic in the snow.

2002 Land Rover Freelander - SE

    Pros: body integrity

    Cons: no arm rest

Advice: get the sunroof; it's worth it

I am totally smitten with this car. I drove the same car for almost 12 years before I purchased my ''lander.' Don't be put off by the price; this vehicle is an excellent value. The add-ons with the SE and HSE models are merely upgrades to an already generous package. I bought the SE, and I do believe that is the best value (the sunroof with the slat-shade is great) of the choices. This car is small but it drives big. One can drive an SUV with a relatively clean conscience and still get the big-ass feel of one of the Breadmobiles.

    2002 Land Rover Freelander - S

    Pros: Comfort

Cons: An arm rest would be nice.

Advice: If you're looking for an urban SUV with true off-road capabilities without plunking down 40 or 50K, then the Freelander SE is your ride!

On and off road, the Freelander is amazing! The all-wheel drive system and traction control get you out of snow covered trails or effortlessly allow you to cruise along sandy beaches -- all in comfort and Land Rover style!

    2002 BMW X5 - 3.0i (M5)

    Pros: ride

    Advice: test drive it

I have 9000 miles on a 3.01 and I love this car. It is solid, fast for a 6, and it is fun to drive.

2002 Land Rover Freelander - SE

    Pros: Handling

Cons: Would like more seat adjustment.

    Advice: Compare HIGHLANDER and JEEP

Solid as a rail on the freeway, excellent cornering. Both were a very pleasant surprise. Brand new I got 20 MPG highway which will improve. Surprising quiet (road noise) on the freeway as well. I am very happy with power and pick-up. Short on cargo space. Arm rests would be nice. Excellent quality and finish. Would have wanted seat bottom tilt . These only go forward and rear and back told. I am very happy with it.

    2002 Land Rover Freelander - S

    Pros: Transmission

    Cons: Door pulls

Advice: Look at this vehicle before ploping down money on a Honda, etc.

Why would anyone pay 25-30K for a Honda, Toyota, Isuzu, etc., when they can experience the quality and style of a Land Rover for around the same price. This vehicle is every inch a Land Rover don't let it's small size fool you. Standard are all the features you pay extra for on all other vehicles and then some. I was sold, hope to keep it a long time.
