Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: The car has great brakes.
Cons: Whenever I unlock the liftgate from inside the car, then get out of the car and shut the driver's door it forces the liftgate to lock.
Advice: Be prepared to spend alot of time in the service department.I purchased a 2003 Certified Pre-Owned BMW X5 in October 2006. The car had 50,000 miles on it at the time of purchase. This car has been in the shop since the first day.The moment I drove the car home from the dealership and pulled into my driveway warning lights and bells were going off. In a two-month period my X5 has been in the shop over 6 times. I now know the whole service department on a first name basis. Nothing has been too major, no engine problems yet (knock on wood), but all the problems combined have been a major annoyance. For instance, my car is in the shop right now because today when I was driving down the highway in the pouring rain my windshield wipers stopped working. If you want to purchase a Certified Pre-Owned BMW beware, when I spoke to BMW regarding all the problems the car has had in the past 2 months, BMW responded with 'What do you expect the car is a 2003 with 50,000 miles on it.' Every car I have had in the past I have driven over 100,000 miles without EVER having a problem. BMW claims that a BMW is the “Ultimate Driving Machine”, I would not know, I barely drive my car because it is ALWAYS in the shop.
Pros: power and comfort
Cons: having to return it to the garage for repair
Advice: I would buy another one but would need to be confident Land Rover ironed out these problemsI bought a Supercharged 5 months ago am very happy with comfort and and performance, but have had some problems knocking noise in front suspension and a whining from steering the front suspension anti roll bar bushings have had to be replaced along with the hydro lick piston for same, when I got the jeep back the garage failed to fill the fluid reservoir for the same. All tyres wore unevenly and had the tracking re set at 35,000 and four new tyres at 43,000 the back tyres wore on out side, brought back to dealer and they wanted to charge me for tracking? but when I objected they relented and tracked the vehicle free of charge, now the the knocking noise increased in front suspension again an I also have had a intermittent whining from the steering this has also become more noticeable ,I think it is related to the power steering pump.
Pros: The way it rides.
Advice: Drive it; if you don't like the way it feels look elsewhere - I love it!I read all the horror stories, but I drove it and its great! Have owned for a whole year, 14,000 miles, and not one fault! Looks great, does great off road, tows my camper, runs on regular, and carries the kids and their gear. I just love this thing!
Pros: looks and ride
Advice: Buy from the dealer that will perform the serviceI hate to rain on the parade, but we have had nothing but problems with the RRS and the dealer. Great looking SUV, nice ride, great performance (when its running) but zero dependability. At 6,000 miles there was fuel pump problem that left my wife stranded in an intersection with the entire contents of the fuel tank dump around here. Tires are shot at 18,000 miles. It has stalled several times. Later started with no problem found. It was towed to the dealer this morning (several quarts of oil leaked/poured out of the engine over night) I did not buy it at the local dealer that is performing the repairs and am getting terrible service. No loaner vehicle, no nothing. Absolutely no resonse from Range Rover. We fell in love with it at first sight. Too bad it ended this way
Pros: The navigation and the stereo
Cons: Gas mileage is not for the faint of heart
Advice: Buy the HSE, you don't save much fuel economy getting the v6 (because of the wieght)The second I stepped inside I wanted it! The smell, the feel, the ruggedness...how any other car company can call thier vehicles SUV's is beyond me, with the exception of the Hummer. This is a true SUV and beautiful to boot!
Advice: The WORST car that I had.My Landrover is now dead for 85,000 miles. It can not run anymore. The mechanics of Landrover cannot find the problem by diagnostics alone. They have to open the engine to find out but not a guarantee that they will find it. How STUPID this Landrover diagnostics is. Landrover should terminate the Engineer who built this STUPID car diagnostics computer. The service advisor told me that the only thing that can fix my car is to replace the whole engine which will cost me $8,000 plus labor and tax.
Cons: The service dept couch (hard and lumpy)
Advice: Purchase but cross your fingersHave had a few annoying problems since purchase 3 months ago. Bluetooth module (replaced) Passenger mirror dip feature broken(mirror replaced) Numorous recalls-all computer software related Service dept- cust service could improve Looks, power, comfort excellent!
