2006 Land Rover Range Rover - HSE

    Pros: looks and ride

    Cons: dependability/dealer

Advice: Buy from the dealer that will perform the service

I hate to rain on the parade, but we have had nothing but problems with the RRS and the dealer. Great looking SUV, nice ride, great performance (when its running) but zero dependability. At 6,000 miles there was fuel pump problem that left my wife stranded in an intersection with the entire contents of the fuel tank dump around here. Tires are shot at 18,000 miles. It has stalled several times. Later started with no problem found. It was towed to the dealer this morning (several quarts of oil leaked/poured out of the engine over night) I did not buy it at the local dealer that is performing the repairs and am getting terrible service. No loaner vehicle, no nothing. Absolutely no resonse from Range Rover. We fell in love with it at first sight. Too bad it ended this way

    2005 Land Rover LR3 - HSE

Pros: The navigation and the stereo

Cons: Gas mileage is not for the faint of heart

Advice: Buy the HSE, you don't save much fuel economy getting the v6 (because of the wieght)

The second I stepped inside I wanted it! The smell, the feel, the ruggedness...how any other car company can call thier vehicles SUV's is beyond me, with the exception of the Hummer. This is a true SUV and beautiful to boot!

    2005 Land Rover Freelander - 4dr

    Pros: none

    Cons: ALL

Advice: The WORST car that I had.

My Landrover is now dead for 85,000 miles. It can not run anymore. The mechanics of Landrover cannot find the problem by diagnostics alone. They have to open the engine to find out but not a guarantee that they will find it. How STUPID this Landrover diagnostics is. Landrover should terminate the Engineer who built this STUPID car diagnostics computer. The service advisor told me that the only thing that can fix my car is to replace the whole engine which will cost me $8,000 plus labor and tax.

    2005 BMW X5 - 3.0i (M6)

Pros: I have the sports addition so I like being able to drive manual or automatic

Cons: It stays in the shop. In 2 years I took it to the shop about 20 times. Most of the time under warranty however BMW should be embarrassed for its poor quality. My honda of 9 years only went to the shop once,

Advice: Make sure you purchase the extended warranty. Trade it before the warranty expires.

    I currently own the 2001 X5 4.4. Drives like a dream.

2006 Land Rover Range Rover Sport - Supercharged

    Pros: Seats

Cons: Gas mileage - 11.8mpg in first 3000 miles -half city/half freeway

Advice: Don't cheap out - get sat radio and phone

Awesome car - love the luxury. Its a great (SUV) drive. Love the steering (previously the Discovery had an appalling turning circle, not a problem now). Great car for the city with the turning circle, and park distance controls. I got the Sat radio (recommended) and the integrated phone (recommended, convenient, BUT sounds like you're in a tin box). Problems so far: sporadic warning that there's a suspension fault, happens once a week or so; wiper coverage (fixed in five mins). Would definitely make the decision to buy the RRS again.

2006 Land Rover Range Rover Sport - HSE

Pros: road condition selection as well as height adjustment

    Cons: voice activation, very confusing

Advice: road test the competition first

Tested the BMW, Porsche, Mercedes and Lexus SUV's in fairness to the competetion they all had certain features that are outstanding. For example, the Lexus has a smooth ride but looks like a shoe box. Mercedes has made great changes in the new ML but according to mechanics I know the car is not yet that reliable. The Range Rover Sport has it all, technology, style, comfort and breeding. I live in the Lake Tahoe area and drive in snow and the mountains, I could not have selected a better SUV.
