2004 Land Rover Discovery - SE

    Pros: Roomy and Safe

    Cons: Gas cap fit

Advice: Verify the electrical system for Nav operations and gas cap fit.

One test drive and I was hooked. Comfortable, but he back seats seem to sit high. My friend is a big man and felt the passenger seat was too small to his liking. But I love the seating, dual moon roofs, comfortable drive. Downside was the Nav system did not work and had to go back to dealer and the gas cap does not shut properly.

    2003 Land Rover Discovery - S

    Pros: Full time 4x4

    Cons: Gas hog

Advice: If you are wanting a SUV and gas expense is not an option, then this is the SUV for you.

Before I purchased the Discovery I owned a heavy duty 3/4 ton truck. So getting used to the weight was not an issue. The handling was great and the interior was acceptable. I've owned mine for 2 yrs and have not spent a dime on servicing. The warrentee on Landrovers is excepional. When i do have it serviced (every 7500 niles) the service dept takes very good care of my Landrover, making sure to fix everything I brought it in for. Free of charge.

2002 Land Rover Discovery - SE

Pros: This is a very tought truck that has never failed me

Cons: The Gas milage is about 12MPG, I only drive 10 miles on hte average day though, so it's not too bad.

Advice: There really isn't much difference between the 2000 models and the 2005 models. Make sure they throw in floor mats.

I've had my 2002 Discovery II SE for a year now, it has 55,000 miles on it and I've had it since it had 40,000. It a great towing truck with plenty of power and has much better handling than older Discovery I's. Plenty of room and a great quality interior.

2004 Land Rover Discovery - SE

    Pros: Rugged style over luxury.

Cons: Looking for oil fields unattended!!!

Advice: If you do a lot of city miles it will cost you in gas - but hey buy one before they all dissappear off the lots!

Drove both new and used versions. They felt the same! Now there's a good sign. That day we also drove new and used Tuareg's . . . a little disconcerting. Vehicles test driven in the one day; VW Tuareg, Nissan Murano, Used GMC Denali, Used Escalade, Durango. Very surprised at the Land Rover quality for the price. Wasn't interested in waiting for the LR3 . . . it just doesn't have that rugged Land Rover vibe. Probably a brilliant vehicle . . . but at least put the spare on the back door! The SE7 is very compliant on the road, seems like it has quite a low centre of gravity for such a tall looking vehicle. Never gives you that 'I'm going to tip over' feel ever! Both new and used had a small clunk in the drive train when you suddenly lift off the gas and power back on . . . must be a feature. Terrible gas mileage, but no different to our '98 Durango. Easy to drive, wonderful view of all 4 corners. Comfortable seats. Sound system has great definition but very little low end punch. Third row seats are wonderful for kids up to about 12. Dual sun roofs are a hit when the whole fam is buckled in. The Trail II package beefs up the look wonderfully! Even though the LR3 is growing on us - the Disco still wins . . . It's a real Land Rover Look!!!. Hanover Land Rover (MA) were the greatest, low key selling, great people, never felt pressured . . . real people.

2004 Land Rover Discovery - SE

    Pros: See below

    Cons: See below

Advice: Do your homework and make sure the price of gas isn't a concern.

I waited patiently for the LR3 and once it arrived, I was not overly impressed with the exterior styling. However, the interior is superb. I opted for a Black 2004 Land Rover SE7 with the Alpaca Beige Leather Interior and all options except the DVD Player. I received a wonderful deal and the dealer knew I had researched the packaging/pricing. We got right to the point and we both left with our shirts on so to speak. The vehicle has a unique look that can be both refined and rugged. It handles wonderfully. It feels safe. My wife enjoys it and my 19 month old son enjoys the views from his stadium/baby seat in the rear. The 217HP engine does not feel underpowered for the size of the vehicle given the torque. The only downside to the vehicle is: Poor gas mileage, slightly tight rear entry for adults and low steering column upon driver entry. Only have a few thousand miles on it so we haven't had any problems with reliability. Hope we won't. Otherwise, we love the vehicle. This vehicle replaces our Jeep Cherokee. We also own a 4 dr. 328I BMW-Sport, VW Jetta GS and a mint 1981 Mazda RX-7.

2003 Land Rover Discovery - SE

Pros: Good offroad, if you want to drive a truck.

Cons: Limited back seat room; hard to get in and out of back seat.

Advice: Look elsewhere. There are much better choices for $40,000.

Questionable quality for a $40,000 vehicle. Alarm system shuts down vehicle if parked for more than 10 days, requiring a road service call. Several problems;loose steering assembly had to be tightened, loose interior trim, oil leak, several rattles and squeaks. Poor gas mileage. Hard to get a comfortable driving position. I traded this vehicle after 11 months of regular dealer service visits.
