Pros: small footprint
Advice: compare against SubaruPurchased the G35X and got 2.9% financing through Infiniti. The car delivers in handling, size, performance, and comfort. Two complaints: seats and gas mileage. Front seats do not allow for hard driving. They are too flat and wide and not nearly supportive enough. Volvo delivers a better cockpit for drivers. My truck gets better gas mileage than this car. I'll attribute the poor efficiency to the car's weight and the AWD. Bottom line: no other car in this category delivers the value of the G35X. You'll spend and additional $10k just to get into an Audi or BMW and you'll pay for the rest of your life to maintain them. This is a solid car. In the Infiniti, you'll feel like you're driving a Japanese Bentley with the gas prices to boot.
Pros: The handling and performance
Cons: The vibration and the noises
Advice: Test Drive, Test Drive, Test Drive! Take the car over 65 mph.I bought a 2003 rear wheel drive infinti and i drove like a dream. The only problem was the light that indicating the tires where slipping came on a lot during rain and snow. I never actually lost control but for more of a piece of mind I traded it in for a 2004 AWD G35. BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER!!! The car drove like a truck and would make all kinds of vibration noices. I took it back to the dealer and was told that's how the car is. If I had know I would have kept my rear wheel drive. When I accelerate over 65mph the car vibrates and makes all kinds of noises.
Cons: Interior plastic molding has developed some rattles and squeaks
Advice: Best performance, AWD, great handling, cheap price.Excellent power. Nice interior - leather seats, dual climate control, etc. Bose speakers are good enough for me (I'm no audiophile). AWD is awesome! During the last few snow storms I have purposesly been trying to fish tail the g35x, without success. It really does an outstanding job on ice, snow, dirt, etc - which is the main reason I purchased this car. I wanted a powerful sport like sedan that I could use as my daily driver in all conditions.
Pros: Headlight design
Cons: no bumper protection from minor scratches
Advice: go for itHandles very well on winding roads with low road noise
Cons: placement of the dashboard light dimming switch.
Advice: The best car for the price when combining performanceDealer experience was excellent. Car is a pleasure to drive. I was driving a Solara conv't and the G35x is a much better car. This is my 4th Nissan product and the only reason I bought the Solara was because of the conv't. The Solara was way to sluggish even with the v6 and the ride to soft for my taste. The G35x has excellent accleration and the ride is firm with out being harsh. My wife says it best by saying the G35x is 'smooth'.
Pros: Good fit and finish. Buttery leather. Great sound system. Very quick. Good handling.
Cons: Smelly during break-in (engine paint?). gas guzzler
Advice: Don't believe the published gas consumption stats. After 6 Maximas I finally moved up to Infiniti. The choice between the 04 Max and the G35x was a trade-off between more toys and a better handling car. Great handling and the AWD is handy in Canadian winters. Adequate interior room and trunk. More of a sports car than the Acura TL. I like the manumatic - but it can be quirky and slow to respond. Controls can be confusing - and not laid out as well as Maxima, which has trunk release on door. Nissan should have provided better tires - the Touranzas are not true all-seasons and no match for the RSA's I was riding on my Y2K Maxima.
Pros: Performance, exterior design, price for category
Cons: Interior console needs wood or titanium, can't get sport package rims or titanium trim in cabin of G35x
Advice: Know invoice and MSRP for car and request multiple dealer bids over internet to get best price. Worked for me.Just reserved a 2004 G35x for arrival at my dealer on Nov. 21. Cars acceleration, handling, and breaking are awesome for this class. Only complaint about the ourside is the rear. Good trunk space. I'm 6'4' had more than enough room for me in front, and good head and leg room in back. Knees got a little tight in back. Got a great price at 3% over invoice ($33,850). MSRP for the car with my specs is $36,075, invoice $32,551.
