Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: Good gas mileage.
Cons: High price, low value, unreliable.
Advice: Honda's reputation for quality and reliability is a joke. You couldn't make a bigger mistake than buying this car.The biggest mistake I've made this year was buying this car. After a horrible experience at the dealership, I ended driving home a car that was a different color than I wanted, had more options (and thus a higher price) than I wanted, and broke down on the way home. Turns out, the transmission was not filled to specs by the factory and the transmission locked up. Since then, (the dealer did replace the transmission) I have had various dashboard lights come on on a daily basis. I will never make the mistake of buying a Honda again.
Cons: Lack of foot rest
Advice: Get the EXThis is our forth Honda. We've had two Accords, a Prelude and now the CR-V. All have been great cars. The CR-V is by far the roomiest and is just as quiet as the rest. The fit and trim is excellent and the visibility is very good. The ride is a little stiffer than expected, but will probably help when we load it up for camping. I always liked the left foot rest in the past cars and is missed on this one. But I do see a fifth Honda in the future when this on is finally paid off. Keith W.
Pros: The seats are comfortable and it gets good gas mileage.
Cons: The quality is terrible.
Advice: I would suggest buying something else.Well, so much for Japanese quality. I bought my Civic 4 months ago and have had nothing but problems with it ever since. The car stalls when taking off from a complete stop about every 9th time. I've had it in for repair twice and they keep telling me that they can't find any problems. I regret buying this piece of junk and warn everyone I know away.
Pros: The stereo was okay.
Cons: This car has no power.
Advice: Stay away from this overpriced laugh. This is a poor excuse for a car. It had no power and was in poor condition. When I got in the car for a test drive and closed the door, the handle fell off! The salesman apologized saying it, 'must have been missed.' I drove the vehicle and was really turned off. It has absolutely no power and comes with few standard features. Looks like I will stick with the Saturn coupe.
Pros: The stereo is nice.
Cons: No power !
Advice: Stay away. You get much more in a Focus or Golf.I first test drove a Ford Focus and really loved it. My friends pressured me into looking at the Civic. The dealership strong armed me into a vehicle that I really didn't want and know I'm stuck for 3 years. The Focus is more powerful, has many more features, lots more room, costs less, and is just more fun to drive. After leaving the dealership, the check engine light came on and I've had it back 4 times with no luck. So much for Honda quality. I will be trading in this Civic in a few years.
Cons: slightly bland styling
Advice: test drive both the L4 and V6 before you decideI drove the Camry, Accord, and Altima. The Camry & Altima were all new for 2002, but even though the Accord is 4 model years old it blows away the Toyota & Nissan in ride, comfort, and performance. Plus resale value is typically higher. If the 2002 Accord is still good enough to beat brand new designs, I can't wait until the all new 2003 model arrives!
Pros: All the power accessories standard on the LX model
Cons: Nothing comes to mind
Advice: Wait for special deals (we saved $3,000 off sticker)The wife needed a new car since the old one she had been driving finally died. I was ready to buy the car without test driving since we had owned Honda cars before. The salesman insisted that I drive it (remember the car was for the wife). I was pleasantly surprised at the responsiveness of the engine even with the automatic transmission. We were so pleased with the dealership that we returned two weeks later to buy a used Honda for our twenty year old college student.
