2002 Ford Ranger - XLT 2.3L Standard (380A) 4x2 2dr Super Cab Stylesi
Pros: Cruise control
Cons: Comfort when riding for a long time
Advice: Buy this truck! Very reliable!!Very reliable truck! I have driven for almost 2 years now and have had no problems at all with this truck. Comfort could be improved a bit, but I am overall impressed with the quality of the truck. The 3.0 engine has plenty of power when you need it. I installed a K&N air filter and it improved the fuel mileage by 3 MPG. Buy this truck!!
2003 Ford Ranger - XLT 3.0L (432A) 4x2 Regular Cab Styleside Short Bo
Pros: sits real high for a 2wd
Cons: for the xlt package there could be a little better than steel wheels on it
Advice: good reliable truck that has very many good qualitiesthis truck for only having a 2.3 4cyl. is quite a little truck. it pulls and carries some pretty good weight for its size. there has been no problems except a little problem with the tailgate cable not tight on one side and the rear leaf springs squeek alot. much better power and ride height than competing trucks in its class. but could use some more power on the hills. the truck does just fine in the snow living in pa. just dont drive it like its summer, put better tires for the weather than the stock ones, and some weight in the bed.
2003 Ford Ranger - XL (416A) 4x2 Regular Cab Styleside Long Box
Pros: Vinyl floor covering is so easy to clean. I just sweep it out.
Cons: The 'ding ding ding' that I have to endure every 20 seconds if I dont have a seatbelt on.
Advice: Get cruise control package. So far I have 7000 miles on it, and I have already had to have an oil pan gasket replaced due to a leak that drips on the exhaust. They did not fix it right so, I have to take it back a second time. Other than that, it is a great truck. It rides good for a truck, it looks great, the cargo room on the 7' bed is more than enough for me, plus it can handle plenty of weight. Even with the few problems I have had, I have gotten no lip from Ford, they have just fixed it.
2003 Ford Ranger - Edge Standard (375A) 4x4 4dr Super Cab Styleside
Pros: 4wd & ride height
Cons: engine noise & door ajar switch problem
Advice: look around. there are higher quality trucks available with less problems, even if you have to buy used. The truck rides pretty good, but the engine has a high pitched whining type of noise that gets louder as you accelerate. When you're not accelerating, the noise stops. It isn't ridiculously loud, but loud enough to hear over the radio and be very annoying at times. Also, the 4-door version must have a defective door ajar switch b/c unless you really slam the back right door, the door ajar indicator stays on, as well as the interior light. I've had it in to the dealership 3 times within the first month of ownership, but still the problem exists. Not a bad truck, but I expected much better quality-wise.
2003 Ford Ranger - Edge Plus (377A) 4x4 4dr Super Cab Styleside
Cons: Rear seat/Extended cab space
Advice: Buy the 4.0 litterBack Seat?, forget it, only small children could fit. Rear doors rattle over moderate rough city strrets. Rough idle at times, could use more power going up 5 to 6% grades. Roomy front interior space, good body fit and paint finish. Great AC, heat, and sound system. No major problems at 4k miles, so far a good reliable truck.
2003 Ford Ranger - XLT 3.0L Standard (481A) 4x2 2dr Super Cab Stylesi
Pros: Driver Comfort
Advice: Need at Min. the XLT package2002 XLT Spacecab. Very Comfortable to drive, 3.0 provides adequate HP for acceleration. Rides smooth for a truck.
2003 Ford Ranger - XLT 3.0L Appearance (483A) 4x2 4dr Super Cab Style
Pros: Space and ease of entry.
Cons: The four door model need to correct the door ajar switch.
Advice: Buy a 3.0 V6 or a 4.0 V6 for power.Excellent dual purpose vehicle, it will make a good car for a small family in short trips. Good workhorse for someone that doesn't need a lot of space for cargo (it carries almost the same weight as the F150)
