Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: It accelerates better than any small car I have owned.
Cons: Large blind spots mean you have to be extra careful on the interstates.
Advice: This is a good car for a single person or to be used as a commuter car.I was desperate for a car after a wreck killed my old one and found this gem sitting on the lot with low miles, the features I wanted (cruise control, air, CD player) and a price I could afford. I was surprised by the car's pep during my test drive, and have yet to find a major flaw since I bought it. I've had it for three weeks now and highly reccomend it.
Pros: electric sunroof and the price
Cons: the horn is loud when you use the remote door lock, I will reset it.
Advice: Get this car while the Employee Pricing incentives are runningI just purchased a new Neon SXT this past week and though I never owned one before, I am very impressed. It is an automatic with sunroof, spoiler and all the gadgets and ABS brakes. We took it for a road trip and put 600 miles on it the first weekend. In Oregon the conditions on mountain roads are treacherous to say the least. This car moved effortlessly up and down and around the slick curves. It has a 2.0 liter engine 4 cylinder. Gorgeous details and very roomy. The price was only 14,900.00. I couldn't find a used Corolla for that. I love this car. Its all American too which is nice to know.
Advice: Thorough test driveI like the car but I have had nothing but problems. The engine is misfiring and has an ocasional backfire. Took it back and the checked everything, plugs, wires, ignition, fuel, and injectors. They reset the computer and said the problem went away. Only 4 15 miles, and its back and worse. Giving them another chance to fix and probably another but have been reading into the lemon law. Wish i could find info on people having the same problem.
Pros: the styling and color
Cons: the noise it sometimes makes when the sunroof is open
Advice: test drive the sxt with manual trans. and you will be hookedi had a toyota echo before i got this car. while the echo was a nice car, i felt like i was cramped in it. i test drove the ford zx4 and almost bought it except that they had to order it from the factory. they didn't have in the color i wanted. while waiting for it to arrive, i tested the neon and decided right there to buy that one instead. i fell in love with the neon as soon as i got behind the wheel.it is almost one year old and i have 20,000 miles on it. i have never had any problems at all.
Cons: gas mileage
Advice: don't buy a neon SE unless you have plenty of $ to spend on gasI am renting a 2005 Neon SE from Enterprise because my '98 Toyota Tacoma (2X4, extra cab) is in the shop for minor body work. I have driven the car for 40 miles so far and it has used up 3 gallons of gas! this averages to 13 miles per gallon in the city, which is way higher than my 7 year old pickup truck. And in these times when gas is almost $2.50 a gallon that makes a big difference in my budget. After finding this out today, I am going to return the Neon and rent (hopefully) a Japanese car. Am I glad I don't own a Neon. I was never very fond of American cars and this is a proof that even a compact american car uses more gas than a Japanese pickup truck. Now why is it that american manufacturers can't get their cars as gas efficient as Japanese? I can't presume it is because americans are dumb and japanese are smart. So I wonder if they are in bed with gas companies to rip us all off.....?
Pros: Very comfortable to drive ... and, of course, I love the Red Flame color. Very striking when she's all shined up!
Cons: The frontward slope of the back window makes it difficult to see when backing up. Gotta use those mirrors!
Advice: Buy one. You will love it.I purchased my Neon SE over a year ago and I love it. It handles well, gets great gas mileage (30mph at last check) and it is comfortable to drive long distances. Although it is a compact car, it is very roomy. Tons of trunk space, and I love how the seats fold down to create more cargo space. The body style is very appealing, although the wheels look a little small in comparison to the car. All in all, I wouldn't trade it for any of it's pricey competitors. It's all the car I need and I love it.
Pros: The economy and style
Cons: Everyone has one
Advice: Drive the Neon first then go drive all others, then drive the Neon again.I live in Alaska and drive 50 miles a day, each way, to and from work. I have 4500 miles on my SXT as of this writing. I use Mobil 1 oil and Chrysler OEM filters. My fuel economy ranges from 32 mpg to 36 mpg. It is a five speed manual. I had the car undercoated and rustproofed. This made a very signifigant improvement in the reduction of road noise. Compared to Saturn, Chevy, Focus and several other compact cars I tried, this is by far the best of the bunch. The Saturn being the closest in driving performance. For the features you get standard no other car domestic or import can come close. I am very pleased with my Neon SXT
