Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: Engines performance and sound.
Cons: No spare tire
Advice: Test drive one in the twisties. After 4200 mi., the best car I have ever owned. It is fast, handles great, brakes are great, awesome looking car. The best part is I can take my family of four out for a ride together. This car is the ultimate driving machine. I waited over a year to buy it at MSRP, but it was worth the wait. Warning! This car teases you to drive it harder and faster, know your limitations. The ride quality is a good compromise between comfort and sports car firmness. It is my weekend driver, only regret is I wish I could use it every day, but it is not a substitute for a work truck.
Pros: The tremendous power of this hi-tech eight cylinder engine
Cons: Somewhat spartan interior
Advice: Get the red oneAcceleration is awesome. The car has a great feel, very responsive in the turns and acceleration that keeps your blood up. The interior is well laid out with no squeaks, rattles or wind noise and the exterior is flawless. This vehicle is well worth the money.
Pros: the i-drive(fairly intuitive but take your time learning all the features)
Cons: owner's manual(lost something in the translation!)
Advice: If you test drive it you will probably buy itI've had the car for two weeks and I keep finding something new to appreciate every time I drive it. I looked at Lexus and Mercedes but if you want luxury AND performance the 745 is only choice imho. Engine has loads of power(325 hp; 0-60 in 5.9) and torque. Handling is truly amazing--drives like a 3-series despite its larger size/mass. The motorola cell phone(BMW logo version of StarTac) is well integrated and can be used as a portable when you leave vehicle. Other electronics/toys are too numerous to describe but add to the 'grin factor'. Originally I was put off by the rear-end styling, but it has really grown on me. BMW broke a lot of pardigms with this car but I think they set a new standard for luxury cars.
Pros: The noise (s ) coming from the muffler.
Cons: The monthly payment
Advice: Shop at least two dealers and go with the people who treat you right. The 3.0 Engine is a jewel! It is smooth as silk and has so much torque from almost zero RPMs..I am delighted with the 330Ci, I got the manual transmission and mated to the sweet sounding engine I feel like Schumacher almost every moring when I drive to work. I tried the steptronic auto and tried to convince myself of it's merits, but...I just think if your 'in' for a car like this get the 'Real' version with a stick..To heck with the traffic jam excuse. The sports package is a must also..Even if only for the seats and white lights. My only regret is not getting the 18 inch wheels - But it is hard to imagine how this car could handle a bend any better than it does. There's a 360 degree Interstate ramp near where I live that I go 2 miles out of my way just so I can exit the appex at 70 mph in third with not even a hint of tire screeching or drama of any kind..it's such a blast to pass geeks in (Toyota) IS 300'S & assorted other fake sports cars in this fashion!.My last car was a 99' M3 which I missed for about a week until I really got to know this super fast grand tourer.Such luxury & quality but can dust 90% of the other sport/luxury type cars out there in the traffic light grand prix. In summary: The looks of the car are a design masterpiece..Very easy on the eye..Performance is great and really makes a regular driver like myself feel exhilerated just by driving to work. I also recomend that you get the Bi-Xenon lights, a great driver saftey feature & nothing to do with the fact that they look cool. Mine has the new Natural brown two-tone Interior with is so rich & Alpine white paint...such a refreshing change from Silver! Enjoy..But don't let this car turn you into a certified car geek as sadly it has done to me.
Pros: The sound of the engine under hard acceleration, out of this world!
Cons: Not having ordered the park distance control
Advice: Don't hesitate, it's an experience.A bargain... don't waste your money on a Ferrari or a Porsche when this is a supercar which is also crammed with luxuries. Previously owned an (automatic) 325is then a (manual) 330ci and this is completely different. Drives like a kitten in the city but is a wild animal -- which can be easily controlled -- on the open road. The sound of the engine as you scream into a tunnel on-ramp is unbelieveable and just has to be heard. I love driving every mile in this car.
Pros: Steptronic tranny and the sound system
Cons: 17' wheels too small
Advice: buy it ASAPBought my 2001 coupe in September and have been more excited each time I get behind the wheel. Supple smooth engine and an auto steptronic that really works. I only wish it came with the 18' wheels when I bought it.
Pros: fit and finish
Cons: cup holders & climate control
Advice: look at a Lincoln LS first....I traded in a 2000 lincoln LS with a sport package to this car it was a bit of a shock. I thought for 12k more the BMW would really be a step above. But if I had to do it again I would have gotten a new LS. It has much more standard equipment. The cup holders in the BMW are useless. The dealer has a add on for $75. they aren't much better. The climate control in not auto as it says. Its really strange to work. I had to go to the dealer to find out is says automatic but it's really not.The Lincoln w/sports package handels better than the standard BMW. In the LS the CD is in the dash not in the trunk. To get a BMW with ALL the same equipment as are standard on LS it would cost you 18K more! I will say the transmission in the BMW is great! So are the lights.
