i bought my mirage new in ohio. I have the 5 speed hatchback. It did very well in snowy conditions. got 45+ mpg just around town. i moved to california sierra nevada foothills, where the service tech in ohio thought performance would decrease. not so!! my little car loves it here! goes up and down winding, steep grades with plenty of power, and my mpg has not suffered at all! In freeway driving i have gotten close to 60 mpg. I find the interior is plenty roomy, and i enjoy driving it.
I love this car, its so easy to drive and super comfortable and it is great value for the money. i hope auto makers keep making small affordable cars even though they are not the most profitable for them. i love the 3-cylinder CVT combo in this car it is very smooth and has enough power to move itself around quickly but i would go with the 5 speed if you can . i also love how i always get better mpg than the sticker this thing is Extremely affordable.
Pros: Looks sporty, but still cheap to drive and maintain, one of the best sport compacts for the money.
Cons: I't should have a tackometer on it and better engine such as the one in the EVO, thats the 2.0 with the turbo.
Advice: Add the tires I added and your car will be nimble and grip like a cat. Also up it up a bit and have a car that will outperform a car thats twice the price are better.I have a 2002 de coupe, I bought it 13 months ago and have logged over 30k miles on it. My car averages 30 mpg no matter how fast I drive it, thats city and highway average. I tend to push my car to the limites of performance though. For a car with so little horspower it moves if you know how to drive it. Mine has gotten up to 125 m.p.h on 87 octane. I feathered the gas once just enough to keep it between 55 and 70 on the highway, and it got 41 mpg on a 260 mile ride some of which was through the smokies up I40. I added chrome plated 16 inch rims with Yokahoma parada spec-2 tires in size 205/45/VR16, and with those rain raceing tires and aluminum mags it handles a corner like a porscha will. I have had no problems with my car that wasn't my fault. It's reliable, peepy and good on fuel, I recomend it highly.
Pros: gas mileage
Cons: Its existance
Advice: Don't.I own one, and it is a piece of junk. Trim is falling off the car left and right for no reason whatsoever, and the engine continuously needs servicing. Avoid it like the cancer it is.
