Mitsubishi Teams Up for Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Challenge
Jeep and Nissan have both gotten into the car giveaway mood lately giving away a 2010 Jeep Wrangler Islander and a 2010 NISMO 370Z, respectively, and now Mitsubishi is getting into the spirit by giving away a yearlong loan of a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. The challenge will be available to drivers taking part in the Lancer Evolution Experience at the Jim Russell Racing Drivers School located at the Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif. In the end, the top drivers will have a 1-in-12 chance of winning the grand prize: a year behind the vehicle used in the training sessions, the Lancer Evolution MR.
The Lancer Evolution Challenge will start on May 6 and run through November 23 for a total of 12 sessions. The top performer of each session will then be invited back for a final session in December to determine the grand prize winner. In addition to the grand prize giveaway of the Lancer Evolution, the second place driver will win a three-day, open-wheel racecar driving school and the third place driver will win karting-related driving school prize. The second-place winner will win a three-day School of Racing package that teaches open-wheel racing in a FJR-50, and the prize is worth $4,795. The third-place winner receives the Techniques of Karting and Advanced Karting program prize which is worth $495.
Put on cooperatively between Mitsubishi and the Jim Russell Racing Drivers School, the Lancer Evolution Experience is a one-day school that teaches how to maximize the performance and handling capabilities of the proven Lancer Evolution X. The school costs $995, and it teaches driving techniques that can be utilized in other areas including the multitude of other classes taught at the driving school. All of the skills attained to place among the top three drivers can be further fine tuned with the second and third place prizes.
After skipping the 2009 model year, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution returns for 2010 with the same impressive, track-tuned performance as the 2008 model. Available in two different models depending on the desired transmission, the Lancer Evolution features a turbocharged and intercooled 2.0-liter MIVEC inline-4 that produces 291-horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. The Lancer Evolution GSR features a five-speed manual transmission, while the top-of-the-line Lancer Evolution MR features Mitsubishi's advanced twin-clutch sportronic shift transmission (TC-SST). Both models feature performance brakes, sport-tuned suspension and Mitsubishi's Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) all-wheel drive system for optimal performance and handling.
If for some reason the grand prize winner is not interested in a spending a year behind the wheel of the track-friendly Lancer Evolution, he or she will also have the option to drive any other vehicle currently available in Mitsubishi's North American lineup which include the Mitsubishi Eclipse, Mitsubishi Galant, Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback, Mitsubishi Endeavor and Mitsubishi Outlander.
