The 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback is a 4-door, 5-seat Hatchback, available in
2 trims, ranging from the FWD to the AWD. Upon introduction, the $19,190
FWD is equipped with a standard 2.4L, 4-cylinder,
engine that achieves 20-mpg in the city and 27-mpg on the highway.
a Manual transmission is standard.
The $27,590
AWD is equipped with a standard 2.0L, 4-cylinder,
engine that achieves 17-mpg in the city and 25-mpg on the highway.
a Manual transmission is standard.
Pros: Higway ride. The car is fast and holds the road like glue.
Cons: The 'no suspension' quality of the car. You are the suspension. lol
Advice: Do not buy it or any of the gts models unless you can live with the faults I mentioned. Buy the es or de less expensive models which does not have so many faults like the above.
Pros: The engine, transmission, cruise, braking, steering all work well and are easy to operate.
Cons: he fuel economy is below par. The suspension is weak. There is a lot more road noise than my prior 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer es. The rear view is not good. There is no light in the trunk -you can not see anything in there at night. There is also no remote trunk release. The buttons on the Steering wheel are not illuminated so you cannot see them at night. The front and rear headlights are not illuminated just because the dash board is, like on most cars. You have to check them. The back support is not great on the front seats because the head rests are slanting too far forward preventing your upper back from really hitting the seat - causing fatigue.

Summary
Pros: Sportonic mode/Paddle shifters, highway driving, solidness of the car, Larger alloys hold the road, back seats fold to give more cargo space.
Cons: Stiff and uncomfortable ride, I find myself looking at the road to avoid holes and bumps instead of enjoying the ride.
Advice: If you like a fast highway car that hugs the road, looks beautiful and you can afford a lot of gas, buy it.
The beauty of the cars appearance can detract you from the fact that it's an expensive car with many faults. But the 10 year 100k powertrain warranty and the 6 yr bumper to bumper LIMITED warranty helps. (as long as you keep all receipts and do all required maintenance in their manual mits warns you)And the limited warranty has many limitations. You should read the warranty before you buy the car.
I didn't buy it mainly because the fuel economy is far below its competitors, Honda, toyota, ford, and even kia. And reviewing lancers on many websites, I found comments by owners about problems ocurring in a short time as: paint chips, easy dents on the side panels, rear suspension needing lots of repair, (possibly true, because in my test drive, I hit a few imperfections on the road and the car did not seem to be able to absorb the impact but rather it was like the impact hurt the car - and possibly many of these could cause premature wear); tires wearing out fast - (might be true because I read mits owners manual for all gts lancers and they make you start rotating the tires at only 3,500 miles ????, probably to try to make the tires last longer because they are aware of the problem. And after also test driving the regular gts, it looks like all the lancer gts cars are similar except that the spoiler on the non sportback gts was placed too high up in the rear windshield, blocking some vision and the 2008 gts does not have the much better 2.4 engine the 9's and 10's have.
Cons: VERY POOR: SUSPENSION, rear visibility, front seat supports, fuel economy , mits calif headquarters customer service, no light in trunk, no remote trunk release, ½ way alarm, active not passive.
Advice: In my opinion, this car is an engineering NIGHTMARE. Mits built a superior engine and trannie and then went to sleep on most of the important features that make a car desirable and comfortable. AND IT IS NOT A GOOD CITY CAR - BETTER HIGHWAY CAR.
The RIDE IS AWFUL - the worst I have ever experienced. Very small bumps are okay and smooth roads great. But any other size bumps are bad jolts - very uncomfortable and aggravating. ROAD NOISE is pronounced because poor insulation. The rear View is awful - obstructed by low hatchback, head rests, and passengers. This causes problems parking, backing, and can cause the car to be accident prone. Back support is poor in front seats. The stability control does not always stop straight - veers to right. Fuel economy is poor. The cheap plastics on the dashboard cause easy scratches. The key cost $300 to replace and have mits reprogram it. Mits customer service in Calif is not very helpful.
