Luxury Married to Individuality

You may have noticed that a great many people today are striving to be different, to stand out in a crowd and make their own personal statement. They do this by trying on the latest fashions or adopting the latest fad, but ultimately end up being just one of millions wearing the same clothes or sporting the same tattoo. It's hard to be different in today's mass-media blitzed world, even when it comes to cars. If your looking for something that really stands out, but that everyone else on the block has not yet discovered, then you owe it to yourself to visit your Mitsubishi dealer and test drive the 2003 Diamante.

With its sharp, angular lines and a shark-like nose, the Diamante breaks from the vanilla world of cautious automotive design. This year, in addition to the ES and LS trims, a new VR-X trim is added to the line. The VR-X model gives the stately Diamante a more sporting appearance, with a blacked-out grille, sporty 16-inch aluminum wheels, a rear spoiler, sport tuned exhaust, white-faced gauges and a tasteful sport-cloth fabric on the seats and door panels. Of course, no matter which model you choose, you will still find the Diamante to be an excellent value.

If there is one thing Mitsubishi understands, it's that luxury means more than just leather seats and power windows. When it comes to comfort, Mitsubishi clearly understands that people want their automobiles to coddle, spoil and delight them; the Diamante delivers on all three counts. Opening the driver's door reveals an inviting interior, with wide front-bucket seats separated by a console shifter. You will instantly recognize that this is no cloned mass-produced interior. The Diamante's spacious cabin shows that a great deal of time and thought went into its creations. You'll notice the high-quality leather, tasteful two-tone dash and the elegant stitching that flows across the plush seats. You'll also notice little extras such as the steering-wheel-mounted controls, standard automatic climate control and 210-watt Infinity sound system. Everything inside the Diamante is right where it belongs conveying the feeling of instant familiarity. The LS model gets one other eye treat to delight you and your passengers; an electro-luminance dash that glows brightly in both full daylight and pitch-black night.

All Diamantes come standard with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 205-horespower. This motor is exceptional on the road, offering excellent power, which is seamlessly transferred to the wheels by a sophisticated 4-speed automatic transmission. Mitsubishi programmed the transmission with an adaptive shift control system that can actually learn your driving habits and then adjust its shift points to better suit your needs. On the open road, you'll find that the Diamante returns a controlled yet smooth ride that does not sacrifice handling in the name of comfort. The balance is just about right on the Diamante, though its front-wheel-drive setup does exhibit some tendency towards understeer when pushed hard. There is good feedback from the steering wheel and the car tracks straight, with no evidence of drift during those moments when you have to remove your eyes from the road. The wonderful front bucket seats do a good job of supporting your body, and the 10-way adjustable driver's seat means just about anyone can find a comfortable position.

Standard safety features include two-stage dual front airbags, anti-lock brakes, three-point seatbelts for all seating positions and optional traction control.

The ES models feature a long list of standard amenities including power windows and door locks, automatic climate control, tilt steering wheel, cruise control, AM/FM stereo with CD, dual power mirrors, dual lighted vanity mirrors, rear-seat cup holders, rear defroster, auto-off headlights, power trunk release and 16-inch alloy wheels. Upscale LS models further enhance the Diamante's stature by adding leather seating, leather-wrapped steering wheel with touch controls, 10-way power driver's seat with memory and 8-way power passenger seat, woodgrain interior trim, one-touch power sunroof and bright 16-inch aluminum wheels. Options include heated seats, 6-disc in-dash CD player and heated sideview mirrors.
