Advice: you don't need the V8Great car!!! I test drove almost every SUV including Acura, Lexus, Toyota, Nissan, GM, Mercedes and Jeep. This is the best of the bunch in terms of what you get and how much it costs. More substantial than any other American SUV. Finish and trim is as good as any of the imports, better than Mercedes. I just figured out why people rate Acura, Lexus and MB so high. They don't want to look like idiots who overpaid for a car. Toyota is highly rated for the same reasons. I noticed that the service department at the Toyota dealer had more upset owners than the Lincoln mercury dealer. Must be a good car.
2002 Mercury Cougar - I4 Base (100A)
Pros: The way the dash board is laid out
Cons: Back seat comfort
Advice: NoneGreat looking car. Very sporty, handles well on the freeway. Good gas mileage. Quiet car. Very comfortable.
2002 Mercury Grand Marquis - LS Premium (200A)

Advice: if you are looking for a new luxury car on a small budget get oneGo test drive the car , you'll like it. My first car was a 91' Marquis (I drove it till the wheels fell off and the block cracked both my fault, ) while the styling is slightly different ,the performance is a lot better. If you are looking for a luxury car under $25,000, look no further because this car is the best per dollar. It runs, drives, and rides like a dream (a real sleeper). The only problem i have with the car is there aren't any headrest in the back seat but besides that i took 6 people and a small dog in the car( with relative comfort ) on a 450 mile trip (gas mileage is pretty good + it has a large gas tank) and i couldn't wake one of them up the whole way there. If you afford the new 2003 mercury marauder get it but if you can’t get it’s cheaper sibling the grand marquis. If you get one , get one with the self-tinting rearview mirror really helps when people follow you with their brights on and it turns everything green . (if only they made a self tinting front windshield)
2002 Mercury Villager - Estate (310A)
Pros: I just love the climate control, it works great. everyone was cool
Cons: if i had to pick, it might be lack of extra luggage room.
Advice: test drive one, 4 captain chairs are more comfortable then middle bench. easier in and out.I am a new owner of a 2002 villager estate. Have had this new van for 1 (one) week, one small trip so far and I just can't beleive how smooth and comfortable this one is. easy in and out for the passengers, luggage room, everyone rode in style and just loved it. great power when needed and I avg. about 27 miles per gallon.
2002 Mercury Cougar - V6 Base (200A)

Advice: Go to Ford.com and pre-qualify - makes the process a breezeI just purchased a 2002 Cougar and I love this car! I was shocked at the ride, features and pricing. Ford.com made financing easy and the entire purchase process was painless. I have never owned a car I loved this much!

Advice: If you are going to tow a heavy trailer get the V-8 otherwise get the 6 cylAs a Previous owner of a 1997 Mountaineer and moving up to a 2002 with now a little over 10,000 miles on it I'm impressed with the mileage my 1997 AWD V-8 5.0 got 10 mile's around town yet the 2000 with the six cylinder gets over 16 and over 20 on the highway. Not bad for a AWD . I also tow a pontoon 20' 8'6' wide. I towed it with and had no problems except once the ball didn't lock correctly and the coupler came undone and the trailer hit the back tail gate and put a dent in it. I have towed for more than 30 years and never had that happen before my fought and the wife let me hear about it, however the truck was able to keep it under control at 45 MPH to A stop. The dealer when I was thinking of buying the six cylinder assured me it would tow the pontoon and sure enough it does and does a better job than the 1997. The V6 has more HP than my older 1997 V8 and you would be hard pressed not to know it wasn't a v8 under the hood. I have to take the /suv into the shop to correct a tirm piece that fell off the seat for lumbar support. and the brakes which stop you very well seem to stick or the transmission doesn't engage right away after a hard stop and when you step on the gas pedal the car doesn't move right away and jerks this again is only after a hard stop. The automatic climate control with dual temp is impressive as well as the indash 6 changer CD. And at 70 MPH Their is a little noise from the window area.
