Cons: gas mileage/transmision
Advice: don'tI, like many of the others have also had transmission problems. The comfort and the room are ok. The style is above par. However, when you still owe for your vehicle you don't really want to put 1,000 dollars into fixing the transmission. I don't know about anyone else but I will never buy a Ford/Mercury product again.
Advice: Look at older Explorers and Mountaineer prior to 2002I have read many reviews stating how great this truck rides. I do not agree. The suspension is too stiff. When you hit a pot hole, you, not the truck, absorb the shock. It really is great on smooth roads, but on normal roads....the worst I have seen. After 3 months we had a major transmission repair. Ford is aware of the problem and only wishes to slap a band aid on the problem and not fix it. Dealer states every Explorer and Mountaineer since 2002 has this design problem and Ford will not replace the transmissions with a better design. Do not ignore the hard shifts. You will be left on the side of the road! My wife and I were so unhappy with the Mountaineer, we demanded the Dealer buy it back and they did. Kudos to the dealer, shame on Ford!
