    2002 Mercury Mountaineer - AWD

    Pros: Look of the vehicle

Cons: All the mechanical problems with it.

Advice: Do not buy one. They have not seemed to fixed any problems with them

I have had my mountaineer for 2 years and have had nothing but problems with it.It is only a 2002 with only 89000 miles on it. I have replaced the drive shaft in it not 1 time but 2 times. The transfer case broke. I have had to replace shock & struts, ball joints and a wheel bearing/hub assembly. This vehicle is the worst I have ever had in my life.

    2002 Mercury Mountaineer - AWD

    Pros: The sound system

    Cons: The uncomfortable front seats

Advice: Don't buy for comfort, cost or low maintenance

Avg mileage good at 19.5 plastic dash area around radio discoloring; plastic strip on top edge of driver door has come loose; This week, at 76,500 miles, break pads were needed and now it appears there is either seal(s) leaking or the bearings are worn out on the rear differential est repairs $1100.00...guess I should have gotten the extended warranty; AWD and sun roof pumped up ret cost to $32,500, considering above, this was a poor vehicle choice for us but otherwise it's ok...but expected more than just 'ok' for $32,500! Our 1997 Lincoln Continental beats it hands down for comfort but it's not AWD either.

    2002 Mercury Mountaineer - AWD

Pros: Third row seating and roof vents

Cons: The access to the third row seating

    Advice: It's worth every penny

I just purchased an early lease returned 2002 AWD Mountaineer. It was pretty hard for me to give up my Volvo, but the confort and handle of this SUV si awesome. The V6 provides more than enough power, and the gas consumtion is equivalent to the gas used in my Volvo 940 Turbo.

    2002 Mercury Mountaineer - AWD

Pros: All the new additions from the 2000

    Cons: Can't say

Advice: You will not be sorry

This is a car in an SUV!! It is the most comfortable car I have ever driven. This is my second time around and they say things get better with age, totally on this vehicle, but you must get the V8. This is a peppy car and the V6 is not peppy enough. They did an aweome job on this one!!

    2002 Mercury Mountaineer - AWD

Pros: V-8 power, 17 inch wheels, sound system (audiophile) and premier package (silver frost)

Cons: power seat control location, no built in video option.

Advice: value, safety, V-8 power and AWD and most of all distinctive looks.

I bought this Mountaineer in May and I can say that is the best suv I have driven or ridden in. I previously owned a Plymouth Grand Voyager and thought that I would be sacraficing in versatility as far as space, comfort and ride. This vehicle has the power, comfort and ride plus performance and looks to boot. I get so many looks when I drive this suv as well as compliments. I believe for the dollar this is best mid size suv out there.

    2002 Mercury Mountaineer - 4x2

Pros: 3 row fold down and covers

    Cons: No under seat storage

Advice: Drive it, you'll like it

I am a pet sitter and drive over 100 miles per day. The Mountaineer handles very well in all types of weather here in South Florida. I was truley impressed with the turning radius. I had previously owned a minivan and could never make the turn. Now, I can make the U turn in tight places with room to spare
