    2005 Mercury Montego - Premier (130A) AWD

    Pros: Smooth ride & handling.

    Cons: Nothing

Advice: It's definately not a sports car - but a great sedan!

I bought my Montego USED and I still can't figure out why it was traded in. It handled Central PA snow like it wasn't there! Great interior features. I'm getting 24 mpg city and 28 highway. This is puzzling since other reviews state less. I'm not doing anything special and live in a hilly area. The ride is smooth and comfortable. I receive great comments from all who ride in it, especially the rear seat space. The safety features are numerous and since this is my business car and I do drive an average of 25K to 30K miles a year, it's a great comfort.

    2005 Mercury Montego - Premier (130A) AWD

Pros: All- it had EVERYTHING I wanted standard with this model.

Cons: After 1 1/2 years I still can't think of anything, other than the telescopic steerig wheel would have been a nice feature.

Advice: If you are worried about horsepower reviews on this first year model, I wouldn't worry unless you are a speed demon as this car has always come through in every situation needed for acceleration.

I ignored all the car magazines reviews and read all the internet cconsumer reviews when purchasing this car and I am so extremely happy that I did. It is truely the BEST car I have ever owned. Everything I wanted is standard in this model, and I have never owned any vehicle where so many passengers have commented about how much they enjoyed riding in it as well. Excellent seat controls and comfort. Great sound system. And if you need to transport alot of stuff- this car will hold as much as a pick up truck with an 8ft bed with a cab on top- I can testify to that as in an emergency situation it happened to us. You know how many different cars parking attendants drive, well I always receive compliments from them about what a great car this is. As far as acceleration goes- I have not had any problems even with heavy people in the backseat- I just punch it a little and she takes off with ease, and the accelaration above 60mph is incredible even up hills she seems to like the challenge. Handling is incredible as she hugs the road in all weather condition even in extreme rain downpours when others are pulling off the road- probably thanks to the standard Pirelli tires- I have never felt safer in a car. Had 12 inches of snow fall overnight and the driveway wasn't plowed yet and she went through it like it never snowed at all and didn't even have to use the traction control. I have a bad back and the heated seating makes it possible for me to drive without my legs cramping up. Inside looks great. Love the large deep drink holders as they will fit everything with no chance of spilling. I wasn't fond of the grey marble on the dash at first- but with all the positive comments from different friends from England on how great it looked, it changed my view, and I realized how it wonderfully completes the interior package. Great gas mileage for an AWD, and you would never guess you were in a AWD vehicle as the ride is so smooth, quite and comfortable.

    2005 Mercury Montego - Premier (120A) FWD

Pros: The interior space is astonishing. Rear seat passengers cross their legs, read newspapers, face each other during conversation. LED taillights are attention getters, functional, and jewel like. HID headlamps provide superior, nighttime illumination.

Cons: The accessory feature. The key turns to the right . . . can't quite get the hang of it.

Advice: If you want extra traction, go for the AWD. If you want just a great, dependable looking car, go for the basic version. If you're into luxury, stereo, leather interior, high style wheels, etc: the Premiere is for you. That's what I drive.

Holds the road, with confidence. Very solid feel to the frame. Nimble, although good sized. I do not have AWD; the handling in snow was admirable, anyway. Love the anti-lock brakes.

    2005 Mercury Montego - Premier (130A) AWD

Pros: The CVT transmission is a nice piece of work.

Cons: The road noise is too high when compared to a luxury sedan. The seat warmers work too well, and tend to roast your backside.

    Advice: none

I traded in a 98 Lincoln Town Car for the AWD Montego. The room is about as good, and I was surprised at the performance. Not fast off the line, but great for merging at the on-ramp. I took it on a 700 mile road trip over the Christmas Holidays. Plenty of room and comfort for four, plus luggage. Although I missed the quiet and soft ride of the big Lincoln, I found the trip less tiring in the Montego....probably due to a more firm ride and a more upright seating position. The Montego with CVT is great on cruise control. Where other cars might have to downshift to hold the speed on a grade, the CVT is smooth as cream. The RPM goes up for increased power without shifting, and automatically does the same for engine braking on the downhill grade. This car is well engineered, fun to drive, and gives you a great sense of control. Great brakes!

    2005 Mercury Montego - Premier (120A) FWD

Pros: Seating height and great visibility, power pedals, mirror and seat.

Cons: small noisy engine and lack of smooth downshifts when climbing hills

Advice: pay attention to engine noises at 3000 rpm shift points and forced downshifts on hills.

This is a very good, well built car, fine fit and finish, nice and comfortable to drive. The more I drive it the better I like it. I do mostly highway driving and it does very well. My highway fuel mileage af 26 mpg at 65-70mph is a little disapointing relative to the estimated mpg of 29, but still not bad compared to the competition. It definitely needs about 25 more horses under the hood and more torque. I would like to see significantly more sound proofing in the firewall and better isolation from road and wind noises. I would just as soon not hear anything but the radio while 'm driving.

    2005 Mercury Montego - Premier (130A) AWD

    Pros: the ride

    Cons: the mileage

Advice: if you want a great ride with AWD and can live with less than 25 mpg on average trips - buy it.

Handling in traffic is great due to the steering, smoothness of the ride and the height of the seats/vehicle. Power is somewhat lacking. Mileage is depressing. I have 7k miles on it, and going into a 30 mph wind crossing Wyoming resulted in 20.7 mpg for over 280 miles. Coming back the next day, with the wind, averaged almost 25 mpg. The superb traction in snow and slippery roads makes it almost worth it.
