2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK350 Roadster: Video Road Test and Review

The Mercedes Benz SLK350 is a two door two passenger retractable hard top roadster powered by a direct injected 3.5 Liter V6 that produces 302 HP and 273 lb-ft of torque being sent through a seven speed automatic gearbox and is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 MPH in just 5.4 seconds while consuming an estimated 20 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on the highway.

Styled to look more like the larger drop tops in the German luxury automaker’s lineup and less like the baby of the family, the SLK350 Roadster features aggressive bodywork with a deep front air dam and complete ground effects package as well as more vertical headlamps identifying the lineage between the SLK and the SLS.  The deeply sculpted arches house high performance rubber wrapped around a set of staggered 18 inch 5 spoke alloys hiding a firmer sport suspension and a set of safety conscious adaptive brakes that ensures the calipers are preloaded when appropriate and the rotors stay dry during downpours.  The smart stoppers will even help out with hill starts as well as allow drivers to keep their foot off the brake to keep the SLK sitting still at stop lights.

The interior of the SLK is adorned with aluminum trim standard to go with the sport pedals, as well as the optional hand polished Burl Walnut wood pieces to cover the steering wheel and shift knob as well as the center stack.  Other optional features include the Magic Sky Control panorama sunroof and the 11 speaker Harman/Kardon LOGIC7 stereo with XM Satellite radio as well as Bluetooth hands free connectivity while the optional navigation with Enhanced Voice Control adds a 7 inch widescreen LCD display, starting at $54,800.

A list of similar cars to the SLK includes the 2012 Audi TT, 2012 BMW Z4 and 2012 Porsche Boxster.
