2013 Mercedes-Benz SL550 Test Drive & Luxury Convertible Car Video Review

The Mercedes-Benz SL550 represents the German luxury brand's flagship convertible.  The Mercedes-Benz SL550 comes with a standard retractable hardtop, offers striking styling, and delivers a high level of performance for a grand touring automobile.  The SL550 is also notable for providing cutting edge safety gear to protect its two passengers, including a full complement of airbags, active blind spot and lane keeping assistance as well as adaptive cruise control with automatic braking should a forward collision be deemed unavoidable.

Completely redesigned for 2013, the Mercedes-Benz SL550 is motivated by a fresh, 4.7-liter V-8 engine that develops 429 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque thanks to the presence of twin turbochargers.  A seven-speed automatic transmission is the only gearbox available with the SL550, but it does offer manual shifting capability via steering-wheel mounted paddles.  Fuel mileage for the roadster shows as 16-mpg in stop and go driving and 24-mpg on the highway.

Standard equipment offered with the Mercedes-Benz SL550 (MSRP $105,500) is quite extensive and includes items such as heated leather seats, an adaptive suspension system, dual automatic climate control, the COMAND vehicle and entertainment system interface, and Bluetooth connectivity.  The SL550 can also be ordered with the Premium 1 package, which includes an automatic parking system, a rearview camera, ventilated seats, and the AIRSCARF neck warmer, as well as the Driver Assistance package that encompasses the advanced safety gear mentioned above.

A list of cars similar to the MB SL includes the 2012 Porsche 911 Cabriolet, 2012 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible and 2012 BMW 650i Convertible.
