2012 Mercedes Benz S550 Video Road Test and Review

The Mercedes-Benz S550 sits near the top of the German automaker's flagship sedan model lineup.  The five-passenger, full-size Mercedes-Benz S550 (MSRP $94,500) comes with an extensive list of standard features including adaptive air suspension, LED running lights, HID headlights, a sunroof, dual automatic climate control, heated and ventilated power leather seats, the COMAND vehicle interface, a voice-controlled navigation system, a surround sound audio system and Bluetooth connectivity.

The Mercedes-Benz S550 leaves the factory with a 4.7-liter V-8 that makes use of twin-turbochargers in order to produce 429 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque.  A seven-speed automatic handles the gear shifting duties for the sedan, while 4MATIC all-wheel drive can be added as an option.  Fuel economy for the S550 shows as 15-mpg city and 25-mpg highway.

Optional equipment available with the Mercedes-Benz S500 shows as the Premium 2 package (parking assist, a rearview camera, massaging front seats), the Rear Seat package (heated and ventilated power rear seats, four zones of automatic climate control), the Driver Assistance package (adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, a blind spot warning system) and the Rear Seat Entertainment package (two LCD screens, DVD player).  Standard safety gear offered with the S550 includes front and rear side airbags, forward airbags and side curtain airbags that deploy along the entire passenger compartment.  The vehicle can also be equipped with a night vision system and the ability to automatically brake the car should a forward collision be deemed inevitable.
