First Drive: Three of the Coolest 2012 Mercedes-Benz AMG Models

2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster

If there’s any fault to be in found in the hardtop, Gullwing version of the SLS AMG, it has to be the fact that it’s almost impossible to be seen in this car with its small side windows, so Mercedes chopped the top off its top-end supercar to make its drivers easily noticed. In doing so, the car still managed to keep its unique and stylish look including the almost cartoonishly long hood and the sloped rear decklid. Of course, beneath that long hood sits the 6.3-liter V-8 pumping out 563 horsepower to help this 3,661-pound Roadster hit 60 mph from a dead start in just 3.7 seconds to go with a top speed of 197 mph. This $196,975 high-performance roadster has the visual appeal to stand out when compared to most other cars in this price range, but our test vehicle’s Mystic White paint job was perfectly set off by the black wheels and red brake calipers. On the road, it’s easy to forget how long the SLS is, but step heady on the accelerator pedal and this work of art sounds just as good as it looks.
