Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: I like the look and the 7-passenger seating option (even though nobody could actually fit in rear seats)
Cons: The computerized accelerator and stall off the line. Dangerous.
Advice: I hear the new models are much better but be careful...if you have a problem, don't look to Mercedes. Mine was in the shop countless times the first year and MD could not have cared less. I was shocked at the lack of customer service.Drove great as compared to Ford Expedition, which was previous car. Got excited about owning a Mercedes and should have done more homework.
Pros: Bose Sound system, looks, features
Cons: acceleration, gas mileage,
Advice: Negotiate, Negotiate, Negotiate on price, buy ext warrantyI recently purchased a preowned ML 320-39k miles, and i'm a little disappointed to say the least. Acceleration from a standstill seems to be lacking, however top end 70+ mph is good. The interior trim appears loose around door panels, cupholders in the most UNergonomic location, and the seats seem to be a little flat. Ride quality is good, however road noise seems to be excessive imho for a MB. I agree CD changer should be more accessable than in the trunk. I guess i expected a lot more out of MB even if i was buying one used.
Pros: Handling in bad weather
Cons: Can' Upgrade Cell phone. Have to spend 2K for new system. 12CD Nav system
Advice: Stay away from M Class. Built In US is cause of so many problems.I own a 2002 & have replaced ByZeon Headlights. Replaced the Gas Tank because of a sensor. The Dash board panel because of sensor problems with the Nav System at night. Break pads at 28,000 MI. The window washer reover due to a crack The rear inside door handle fell off. The rear ash tray came apart. Had to replace all the chips & Master controller for the voice activated telephone system. Rattles in the right passenger door. Have to sell this car. Constant Maintenance problems.
Pros: seat comfort
Cons: gas mileage rating and brake wear
Advice: buy a sedan or coupeMy ML320 has been in the service bay four times for recurring windshield washer reservoir leaks; windows don't close properly; cricket sound under dash in cold weather. I like the way it handles and interior comfort. When my lease expires, I'll try something else.
Pros: Handling and power.
Cons: CD changer in rear requires some planning.
Advice: Know your prices, there are discounts. After testing most of the top rated mid-sized SUVs, I settled on the ML. I cannot imagine who writes the negative reviews I found, because this was by far the nicest car and the best value out there. The Mercedes dealer was low pressure but high service (unlike Acura -- they wanted me to feel I was lucky to buy one!) The car feels safe, solid and luxurious, but not in a superfluous way...no useless bells and whistles, but nothing missing either. It's quiet, fast, and smooth, especially considering it is a truck-based vehicle. Our overall experience is overwhelmingly positive.
Pros: Breaks and handling.
Cons: Seat confort.
Advice: Check into the electric problems.I own a 2002 one, great car. It has some electrical prfoblems. Álso fuel injection or filtering problems.
Pros: The GPS!! It works great, even when a accident blocks the road ahead, hit the detour button, and it gets you around it
Cons: The truck has the smallest coat hanger hook I have ever seen! You cannot even put a sportcoat on a nice hanger on it, plus it is in a terrible spot! The may have thought of everything else, but missed this one big time!
Advice: Get the cd changer and the sunroof for sure!I love the power of the vehicle and the feel on the road, wet or dry. The halogen lights are worth the money as they are so much brighter than any else you have driven. It would be nice if the steering wheel had some sound system controls on it though. Those buttons are somewhat small and a long reach.
