ROAD NOISE BAD BAD BAD
Pros: LOOKS GREAT
Cons: Lack Mazda support,MPG,ROAD NOISEThis SUV looks good , but that is where it ends. The road noise is so bad you can't TALK or hear the RADIO. Dealer said it was the tires. WE put on the quitest tire Bridgestone makes at 10,000 miles no help at the cost $600 out of my Hipocket.Tire Alignment was off from start with pulling to left and tire wear. at 5000 miles. Again I had to pay. Dealer said noise was wind noise and we took the rack off the top no help. MPG REAL BAD city 15 road 17. THE FORD ESCAPE is the same car and had same problems. Parts are hard to get. Just so you I am ASE MEC and oversaw the maintance on 80,000 units over 45 years in manintance
Pros: Looks and Price
Cons: Inside body creaks
Advice: Test drive awhile first-listen for creaksAs I've heard from other reviewers on other sites, my 05 Tribute is also now making creak and groan noises in the doors upon acceleration, stopping and turning. Some WD-40 or silicone spread around the door rubber stops it for a day or two. This is a road noise quieter vehicle than the 01 Tribute I had and thankfully they got rid of that horrid shifter on the column!
Pros: Standard 16' tires
Cons: pesky beeping noise if you don't buckle up within 1 min of driving.
Advice: price out comparable Escape for a great negotiating toolConsidered the Mariner and Escape but couldn't pass up the Tribute's better looks, warranty, and incentives. The v6 has impressive power without sacrificing fuel economy. I did test drive the 4 cyl and it did not feel underpowered. The v6 model just happened to have all the right features and it was in stock. Resale on this vehicle so far seems to be better than its competitors. I'm very happy with my Tribute.
Pros: 4 cylinder performance
Cons: No white letter tires
Advice: Compare to CRV and VUECrisp handling...good get-up and go for a 4 cylinder engine. You sit high for a small SUV.
Cons: dealer did not have one with Package 3 (heated seats)
Advice: research/compareoutstanding! I test drove a Mercury Mariner and a Ford Escape. Tribute - quieter, seemed to ride better. Stereo is awesome, lots of room front and rear. Better warranty than Mercury or Ford. Better interior than Ford or Mercury, even though manufactured by Ford! Have only owned for six weeks, so far I love it!
Pros: Overall look and the 6 cyl engine.
Cons: Would have liked XM Sat radio as an installed option (like the wife's 2005 Equinox has).
Advice: Enjoy it! It's a blast to drive.Fast, and an attention getter. Just picked up last nite at Wayne Mazda in NJ, so I don't have a lot to say yet. The CD changer wasn't swallowing CD's correctly so the dealer replaced it with a brand new unit from another 2005 in 1/2 hour today. The 7 spkr sound system option is awesome!
Pros: GEAR SHIFT
Cons: HIGHER STEP IN
Advice: DRIVE FOR AWHILE TO MAKE SURE DOES NOT MAKE ANY STRANGE NOISESLOVE THE CAR BUT AFTER DRIVING FOR A DAY HAS DEVELOPED A CHIRPING NOISE WITH THE TURN OF THE WHEELS. SOUND CHANGES WITH SPEED OF TURNING OF TIRES. WILL TAKE TO DEALER. WHAT IS WRONG?
