Overall a reliable comfortable suv
Pros: The all leather interior and built in 6CD changer.
Advice: They are a great 'small' SUVI originally wanted a CRV or Rav 4, but because of the price I decided to go with the Tribute, and the Tribute is more spacious than both the CRV and the Rav 4. Once I sat in the seat I knew I was getting it, I got an awesome internet speacial, it was the end of the month and the dealership was making space for the 2007 models, I got a great deal, I got it fully loaded , leather interior, moonroof, everything. It feels like I'm driving a car and it's easy to park.
Pros: The 6-cd player.
Cons: Performance, feel of hestitation when accelerating
Advice: Do not buyIn a short 24 months of ownership I have experienced stalling, hesitation upon acceleration, 2 recalls, peeling paint on the roof, faulty and continuously frozen door locks, and enough headache to last a lifetime.
Pros: Interior...especially the leather. Also like the in-dash 6 CD changer.
Cons: Placement of the gear shift
Advice: Buy one nowI have had my '03 Tribute for over two years. I am very happy with it. The acceleration is great and the handling is smooth,
Pros: midsize seating for compact pricing. very comfortable to drive.
Cons: gear shifter is in a lousy location. but since its an automatic.. its not a big deal.
Advice: 2003 and later is reliable, and u get midsize SUV for compact SUV cost.potential buyers.. know 2 things when u are considering the Tribute. a) Any quality/reliability problems was only few of the 2001/2002 models mostly attributed to new design issues. I am yet to hear of any such problems with 2003 and later models. b) Bang for the Buck - Mazda Tribute. costs (with rebates) similar to Honda CRV/Toyota RAV4.. but much bigger and more comfortable than those. Size is just a bit smaller than the Highlander and Murano but costs $5k less than those.
Cons: Firestone Tires
Advice: Test drive Mazda and EscapeLove this car! I never thought an SUV would be fun to drive, but this one has great road feel. Living in the mountains, the power and acceleration are great to have. The only negative were the Firestone tires that cupped at 10k miles and roared incessantly. Replaced them with Michelin CrossTerrain SUV and it rides great now. Seats can get a little uncomfortable on longer trips and there is windnoise at higher speeds, but the sound system is great, so crank it up and enjoy.
Pros: Quality and spaciousness of interior.
Cons: Slight vibration - although, will be corrected in two days.
Advice: Drive the rest, then buy the best.Vehicle was very spacious, responsive, has a smooth ride (comparable to the Mazda 6), and amazingly quiet at highway speeds. Only minor concern was a slight wheel/tire vibration at 50-55mph...which will be corrected by service department after delivery (by choice). Originally, we had no desire to purchase an SUV. Actually, we were ready to purchase the Mazda 6 or the Nissan Altima. After the test drive, we were sold. We love the vehicle and are proud to own it. Our teenage son and daughter have fallen in love with this unit too. Got a 'deal I feel good about:' Got an SUV I feel great about! Many thanks to our salesperson (Margarite) at Mazda of Fort Myers.
