Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: rotary engine
Cons: seats a bit unforgiving after 4 or 5 hours
Advice: You will love it!!A tad uncomfortable on a very long drive(400+ miles), but then all cars likely are. Otherwise, the performance (particularly on curves!) is outstanding. And the appearance inside and out simply can't be beat! RXs once upon a time sucked up oil, but no longer! This is a pleasure to look at and to drive.
Cons: Not practical
Advice: Not advisable for famliesAs I read my fellow CX-7 owner's reviews I get the feeling that many of us purchased this car more due to looks and the ability to boast about having a turbo charged vehicle than anything else. Yes, the styling and presence of this vehicle cannot be denied. Nor can I say that it isn't fun to drive. However, if you are considering this car think about these few things: MPG - it gets at best 20 for me on highway and 17 combined on top of the fact that it needs premium fuel. If you think you are going to get away with less, the dealer will tell you that you can but you lose the whole point of having a turbo charged engine and might as well buy a 6 cylinder something else. Size - the RAV 4 has more cargo space and the CR-V more passenger space. Family use - it is much higher than similar CUV's making it almost impossible for my 3yr old to get in and out of. It suffers from an odd placement, operation or complete absence of buttons - the master window control panel is an all or nothing deal, if the windows are locked, even the driver can't manually open a window. And it also locks out the passenger. There is no master lamp control and no vanity mirror lights. Doors are intended for adults, they are heavy and do not stay open with the force a typical young child would apply. Standard Features - For a vehicle produced in 2008 and not 1998 I would expect it to have MP3 disk playing capabilities (that is $600.00 more for an mp3 changer), an axillary jack and more than one charging outlet. (Hard to decide whether to charge your cell phone or your GPS unit sometimes). Many of these issues are minor but do you really want to deal with them daily for 3-6 years?
Pros: Appearance, performance and handling
Cons: No MP3 connection
Advice: There is no better value for a mid sized SUV.Just bought my second CX-7. After 2 years, turned in a leased Galaxy Gray GT for a purchased 2008 Mica Copper Red GT, Sand leather interior loaded with every option. It is the first time ever I have repeated on a new vehicle with the same body style. The CX-7 was ahead of the styling curve and the other 'crossovers' are just catching up. Exception is the Infiniti FX, a great vehicle, but for price and value, the CX-7 cannot be touched. Some ding it for the mileage, but its reasonable for its class and the 2008-09 can use regular fuel(07 required premium). Performance (244 hp)and handling are like a sports car. Zoom Zoom is more than hype. My other car is a 350z roadster. Both are a blast to drive. The decision which car to drive is about how much I need to haul and if the weather is right for the top down. I do wish it had Bluetooth and MP3 connection. Those have been added to 2009 models. The Bose sound system is awesome. Interior very comfortable and smartly designed. Times are tough at all dealerships and the deals are there. If you can find a 2008, there's a $3750. incentive.
Pros: suicide doors
Cons: gas milage
Advice: for the price, with it offers, maintain the oil more often, go for it, you wiil enjoy ittop end speed, it takes off. tou need to let off the gas. automatic shifts very well, corners exceptional, there is no leaning either to the right or left as you driving around a curved road. must be warmed up, to efficently drive, more so in the colder temps.having to use top of the line gas, milage of the car is not what the sticker states, it is lower.
Pros: Touch screen GPS and sound option.
Cons: None, just the original tire.
Advice: Original tire does not work on heary snow road condition because it is the high performance summer tire.Super powerful, It has every option you can name it, power everything, ABS, TCS, Turbo, Touch screen GPS, Sunroof, Leather seat, Bose sound system, TPMS and much more. I paid 33k for it and also I was told that my CX 7 is the only one in this region, I did research from Mazdausa.com and others search page and I can't find any that same as mine. Compare with others car, you can't get any close to this price range.
Cons: Tires wear easily and aren't cheap
Advice: Be clear what you are purchasing!!!! This is a high performance vehicle.Be clear what you are purchasing!!!! This is a high performance vehicle. The tires were worn after 15k miles and replacement tires are expensive and selections are very limited. The car requires 93 octane gas and trust me, you will notice if you use low grade gasoline. Mine has been in the shop for a cronic emissions valve issue (replaced 4 x). I can't be all negative as I truely enjoy the ride. It has a sleek look. It has jump in all six gears (throw it in 5th and romp on it on the highway). I have enjoyed it so far.
Pros: Comfort and good price for what you get
Advice: test drive carefully to feel the clutch. very different than otherscar drives great. very quick off the line. seats are comfy, doors make a nice sound when closing (showing quality). trunk space is just fine. the people who complain about that are way too picky. I love the car in every way. If these people are so picky about it, then why did they buy it?
