Pros: Body style
Cons: No low end tourqeGood economic sports car. Great body style and interior design. Rotary motor provides good high end speed but limited tourqe in low rpm.
Pros: suicide doors
Cons: gas milage
Advice: for the price, with it offers, maintain the oil more often, go for it, you wiil enjoy ittop end speed, it takes off. tou need to let off the gas. automatic shifts very well, corners exceptional, there is no leaning either to the right or left as you driving around a curved road. must be warmed up, to efficently drive, more so in the colder temps.having to use top of the line gas, milage of the car is not what the sticker states, it is lower.
Pros: the awesome appearance, and the super handling on tight curves
Cons: inability to shut down a cold engine
Advice: great car- just don't pay more than necessaryI've driven my fully loaded, brilliant black, manual transmission RX-8 for almost a year now. Would I buy it again? Absolutely. The only thing I would do differently is negotiate a little harder on price- I wanted it so badly I think I paid more than I had to. Reasons why I'd buy it again- First, the looks- totally hot. Second, the handling. Being able to accelerate through tight curves is such a rush. Third- the acceleration- although this isn't what I call a 'fast car' (I couldn't compete with Corvettes or other muscle cars on a straightaway), it certainly is quick, especially in the lower gears at high RPMs. Fourth- the super solid short throw shifter is just fabulous, I never take my hand off of it and it is positioned just right so I don't have to. Fifth- the brakes- a Mazda tradition- super solid and dependable. Some people dislike the gas mileage and oil consumption. I just don't see how these issues override the otherwise great qualities. I personally think the rear seats are quite cramped, and I would never expect anyone to ride back there- but the rear seats sure are convenient for clothing, electronics, or other items being transported that you wouldn't normally want to put in your trunk. the brakes do squeal- so what. I wish they didn't, but I've learned to deal with it. I have had to deal with the flooding issue- had to have the car flatbedded back to the dealer once when my wife backed it out of the garage and turned the motor right off. But now that we are both aware of this issue, we just are more careful. Three or four minutes is all the engine seems to need to get to an acceptable temperature. And I keep hearing that continual upgrades to the electronic processor are reducing this problem. In conclusion- Yes ! Go buy one ! You won't regret it. Just negotiate, negotiate, negotiate.
Pros: The safety features.
Cons: The cheap plastic parts.
Advice: Great performanceI owned this vehicle from July 2003-Sept 2004 (R.I.P.). I was very happy with the way it drove. Some plastic interior parts are cheaply put together and easily scratched. Had to have Mazda replace Gearshift due to the plastic rotary design cracking and falling off. Other then that the safety of this vechicle is incredible! I was hit from a red light runner on driver side and both airbags deployed saving my life. The lady hit me going approximatly 46mph. I highly reccomend the car if not for looks and performance but safety as well. I am living proof!
Cons: Gas mileage
Advice: Get the 'red' - very cool paint!!!Test drove this and the car I THOUGHT I loved (Infinit G35 coupe) the same day, it was a no-brainer. RX-8 fit like a GLOVE from minute one. Constantly thinking of excuses to drive mine! High points are the confidence-inspiring handling, exterior looks awesome, interior super-cool and comfy, feels easy to drive fast. Get the 'red' - I think they call it 'Velocity Mica Red,' but it is a SUPER-COOL & VERY metallic pearl red (3-stage paint). Beautiful paintjob w/ real 'depth,' may be the prettiest paint I've ever seen. Low points are gas mileage, esp. with gas going through the roof. Avg. 18mpg with heater off, about 16-17 with heater on, and it requires premium. Not for the financially-challenged...
Pros: Smooth Shifter, Bose Stereo, Engine, Shinka Limited Availability
Cons: Hard to keep it clean. Gas mileage. But who cares? It's a sports car!
Advice: Just drive and you will see for yourself.I have the Shinka Special Edition and I must say that this is the best car I have ever driven in my life! Bad thing is, I can't go anywhere without getting a bit too much attention. I don't think this will end, because the interior and exterior are jus gorgeous. The car handles like a champ and the ride is much smoother than anticipated.
Cons: Not a good snow car
Advice: Drive it and you will fall in love. Make sure you test drive it on a road with lots of curves.Bought it for my wife but I can't stay out of it. I am 56 and feel like 20 when I'm drivibg it. Got the manual 6 speed GT with all options, nav ect. Velocity Red with the red/black leather. If gas milage is a concern, don't buy it. I am getting between 18 and 21 mpg overall. This is with 3000 miles on the car. If you are getting worse then it's either your driving habits or you need to get it looked at.
