For the 2015 model year, Mazda decided to commemorate a milestone birthday of its beloved Miata roadster. The 25th Anniversary Edition of the Miata MX-5 is an extremely limited production run, with only 100 examples of this car designated for the United States market. Autobytel talked to Dave Coleman, who is the Mazda R&D Vehicle Development Engineer. Though the 25th Anniversary Edition of the 2015 MX-5 might look pretty self-explanatory, the Mazda team that designed this car was able to sneak in some unique features to make this limited vehicle extra special for the lucky few Miata fans who snagged one. One example of the high level of craftsmanship for this car is the windshield frame, which has been painted black to contrast with the rest of the car’s exterior. Since the Miata factory can’t typically paint a car two different colors, this subtle detail required a lot of extra time and care. Another such element is the dashboard trim panel, which has been hand-painted to fade from Soul Red (the car’s exterior color) to black. The 25th Anniversary Edition also features a balanced and blueprinted motor, and Bilstein shock absorbers. Though the 25th Anniversary Edition Miata is already gone, lucky owners can rest assured it was worth the effort to get one.
