2012 Mazda6: Video Road Test and Review

The Mazda six is a four door five passenger midsize sport sedan from Japan that is available with either a 30+ MPG four cylinder or a very zoom-zoom V6 rated at over 270 HP in a stylish and subtly aggressive package.  Mazda makes the 6 available in six different trim levels: starting with the entry level i Sport, then the i Touring, i Touring Plus and i Grand Touring before moving into the V6 powered s Touring Plus and finally the top of the line s Grand Touring.

The entry level Mazda6 i Sport is powered by a 2.5 Liter four cylinder that produces 170 HP and 167 lb-ft of torque being shifted with either a six speed manual or a five speed Sport automatic that is good for an estimated 22 MPG in the city and as much as 31 MPG on the highway.  The $20,480 i Sport also comes with halogen headlamps, dual power side mirrors, 16 inch steel wheels with covers, remote keyless entry, power accessories with one touch drivers window, cruise control, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, 60/40 split rear seat and a six speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3 stereo standard.  The next step up is the Mazda6 i Touring, starting at $23,125 this 6 is only available with a five speed auto box and gets a pair of halogen fog lamps as well as a set of 17 inch aluminum alloys.  On the inside the i Touring benefits from an eight way power adjustable drivers seat, leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, sliding center armrest and premium interior trim accents as well as Bluetooth hands free connectivity and a six disc in dash CD changer.  The well equipped Mazda6 i Touring Plus gets a power sliding glass sunroof, side mirrors with integrated turn signals and ground illumination as well as Blind Spot monitoring and electroluminescent gauges all starting at $24,730.  The top of the line four cylinder i Grand Touring is available with xenon headlamps and Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry with push button start, heated leather wrapped front seats, back up camera, welcome lighting, dual zone automatic climate control and a 10 speaker Bose Centerpoint Surround Sound System starting at $27,310.

The first of the six cylinder Sixes is the Mazda6 s Touring Plus, powered by a 3.7 Liter VVT V6 that generates a total of 272 HP and 269 lb-ft of torque and is exclusively available with a six speed Sport automatic which is good for an estimated 18 MPG around town and up to 27 MPG at speed.  The $27,570 s Touring Plus comes with a chrome tipped dual exhaust, power sliding glass sunroof and side mirrors with integrated turn signals and ground illumination as well as Blind Spot monitoring.  The top of the line Mazda6 s Grand Touring starts at $29,810 and rides on a set of 18 inch rims.  The Grand Touring model comes with welcome lighting, dual zone automatic climate control, heated leather wrapped front buckets and a back up camera.  Optional equipment includes the available xenon headlamps and Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry with push button start; while the 10 speaker Bose Centerpoint Surround Sound System handles audio duties as standard fare.
