    2002 Lincoln Blackwood - Base

    Pros: most everything

Cons: gas rating & mpg, no running boards and no double sun visor

Advice: Worth it despite the gas rating and what they left off.

Despite what the professionals think, this has proven to be a great vehicle. True the gas rating should be like the Navigator but there is only a 3 mpg difference between the Blackwood and the Ford sport trac. The ride is smooter than the navigator and all the little features are nice. However why they left off running boards and the double sun visor is beyond me. Why they make the octane rating so high is also a poor choice. Hopefully the value will increase since they only made 4,000.

    2002 Lincoln LS - V8 Auto LSE (221A)

    Pros: Engine and handling

Cons: Small trunk and a few minor paint defects (fixed under warranty)

Advice: Carefully inspect the vehicle prior to delivery

The car rides and handles very well. I like the 'cockpit feel' that it provides. High RPM performance is very impressive (e.g., passing on the freeway), but low-end performance (e.g., stop-and-go driving) is just average. Still, it is a lot of fun to drive. My car is the LSE which has very little exterior chrome, enhanced ground effects, larger wheels and stiffer suspension. It does handle better than the standard LS with only a very minor difference in ride quality.

    2002 Lincoln LS - V8 Auto LSE (221A)

    Pros: Road handling

    Cons: Sub-par fit and finish

Advice: Listen for whines and insist on repairs. That isn't the 'way they're supposed to sound.'

This is our 2nd LS. The first was good, but had the problems of a 1st model year. This one has a better finish. Xlnt ride and power. Good value for money. Lighter paint colors are better. The black exterior paint is very poor. Transmission is a bit hesitant when shifting. And both cars had some degree of rear-end whine (though the new one got a Ford recommended rear-end replacement at 5K miles and now has very little whine). Very quiet and smooth ride with good stability on all sorts of roads. Test drive a few and you will notice that some have more wind noise than others. The exterior fit is not always tight. Interior plastic parts and trim should be upgraded by Lincoln.

    2003 Lincoln Navigator - Ultimate (220B) 4x4

Pros: Air Suspension and 4X4 systems

Cons: I don't like all the plastic trim. Just adds weight

    Advice: BUY it

We love the new Navigator with the independant rear end. Went 4X4 last weekend and did figure 8s around two trucks stuck in the sand, and I did not have off the road tires. The 4 wheel low is really powerful with the all wheel drive (positraction). The navigaiton systems works exactly as promised. The room is great. We have 6 kids at home and use all the seats. The back seats can fit my 6' 4' son with 4 to 5 inches of head clearance and his knees do not hit the seat in front.

    2002 Lincoln LS - V8 Auto Base (200A)

Pros: convenience of steering wheel radio controls

Cons: Needs more console/cup holder space

Advice: Be prepared to buy a good set of winter tires!

Liked it the moment I got in! Loved it the moment I drove it off the lot! The only thing that could make this car better would be convertible top!!!
