2005 Lincoln Navigator - Ultimate (220A) 4x4
Pros: Navigation System, Stereo, power everything
Cons: Super Unleaded Fuel
Advice: If you can't afford the gas, buy something else.I compared a large number of vehicles before settling on the Navigator. It is truly a beautiful vehicle and a pleasure to drive.
2004 Lincoln Navigator - Luxury (100A) 4x2
Pros: apperance, ride
Cons: inferior reliability
Advice: DO NOT BUY !!Do not buy this car. It is inferior to other makes (lexus, toyota). This vehicle should cost half of what it does. The rear axle has failed with only 15,000 miles (left my wife on the side of the road). The dealer I purchased it from would not help her. Another dealer recovered it and has had it in the shop for 2 weeks. You will pay luxury prices for the navigator and get very little service after you write the check.
2003 Lincoln Navigator - Luxury (200A) 4x4
Pros: it is a beautiful car
Cons: window control placement, lack of space around gear shift for personal items
Advice: be careful!Purchased new in 2003. Beautiful car...however...this car has had problems from the start, in the shop at least eight times ... replaced under warranty so far... 3 stereos, 2 rearview mirror motors, 1 automatic seat motor (and the seat will not move again now so will have to be replaced again I am sure)... Whopper: a new alternator within only 20 months of purchase - had to be towed from the side of the road last summer in 100 degree heat! Window washer fluid has always leaked but has never been fixed. Now when anything of an electrical nature happens: i.e. cell rings while charging, auto door lock upon acceleration, air conditioner turns on - the radio makes this popping buzzing noise. Sounds like my volkswagen I drove in college - at ten times the price!! I am afraid that one day soon - it will just stop running all together! Warranty ends soon - we will have to find another car to avoid the continuing money pit.
2003 Lincoln Navigator - Ultimate (120B) 4x2
Pros: The automatic tailgate, The GPS system.
Cons: The running boards, I'm affraid they are going to break from going in and out so much.
Advice: Get the GPS.The suspension is great. Looks great in the front but the rear needs to be updated. Smooth ride...
2002 Lincoln Navigator - 4x4
Pros: Towing capacity
Cons: Incessant problem areas: brakes, engine, transmission, suspension, off-road 4x4 system
Advice: Look elsewhere. This has not been the experience of a vehicle supposed to be at this level. Rather, it's what one might have expected of an entry-level econobox - and even then it would be worthy of complaint. ***** The truck has had repeated problems with brakes (go out periodically), engine/transmission (lugs; makes some scary whistles when cold; fails to shift to deliver power), suspension (air suspension failures). Was in for brake problems five times between 29K and 36,800 miles... THEN they found major problems, when it was out of warranty. The number for Lincoln towing is on speed dial in my cell phone, for good reason. - Brakes: since 29K miles, the brakes occasionally become too heavy to push, and the truck fails to decelerate. Now almost 10K miles later, it still happens, despite replacement of just about everything to do with front suspension and braking. - Engine/transmission: Truck, still under 50K miles, sometimes fails to accelerate. Transmission finally does kick down (with pedal almost on the floor)... but drops two gears, making a noise and little else before upshifting. Makes pulling out to pass an excercise in the game of 'chicken'. - Air suspension: check suspension comes on periodically - a 'do not drive' condition in this truck. Dealerships have just reset the light. Once, a tech thought we had a ton of extra weight in the back, based on the angle the truck took, only to see the back was empty. Again, they just turned the light off. - Minor items: - HVAC heats until apparently reaching too high a temperature, then blows frigid air to compensate. - Heated/Cooled seats going out - they're very nice for my wife's hernieated discs, but they're getting weaker with age. ***** We chose the truck in part for its being 4wd - a big plus in upstate NY. My wife won't drive it in snow, though, because it acts as rwd until sensing slip... then it's already sideways. It's like driving a very tall 1987 Ford Country Squire station wagon, except it *can* be put in 4x4 mode. In that condition, which cannot be used on dry pavement, all four wheels turn at the same rate. So when the roads are REALLY bad, it's great. As soon as some plowing or salting occurs, it has to go back in A4WD, its normal mode, where it's RWD by default. ***** The (many) service departments we've been to have been consistently incompetent; the loaner cars (provided only on sufficient complaining) have been substandard: Focus, Neon, Escort (which died at traffic lights), Mountaineer (which died due to failed brake switch leaving brake lights on), Sable (with water puddles inside), and LS (which was nice, but too little too late). ***** So in short, go elsewhere. Don't get one of these and pay through the nose each month so the service department can drive your car.
2003 Lincoln Navigator - Luxury (100A) 4x2
Cons: Extremely unreliable
Advice: Buy anything else but as Navigator.I purchase my 2003 Navigator new and it has been Extremely unreliable. It has been in the shop at leat 9 times + within the first year for the same repeat problems (windshield leaks, rear view mirror, electrical etc.) The Navigator is a GREAT LOOKING suv But don't be fooled by its looks. Very poorly designed and cheaply made. I have owned many SUV's however the Navigator is the Worst car I have ever owned.
2003 Lincoln Navigator - Ultimate (220B) 4x4
Pros: automatic tailgate and the dual climate control
Cons: The sound system is of poor quality.
Advice: If you like luxury and a really smooth ride then the Navigator is for you.The clock display is poorly displayed. Driver seat controls are difficult to access.
