Changes for the 2014 Lincoln MKS:
Following a significant refresh for the 2013 model year, the Lincoln MKS includes a standard reversing camera and can be dipped in one of three new exterior colors.
A full-size luxury sedan with a 19.2 cu.-ft. trunk, the 2014 Lincoln MKS is sold in a single level of specification with a choice between Premium and Elite package upgrades and a handful of options.
Standard equipment includes premium leather sourced from Bridge of Weir in Scotland, genuine wood interior trim, 12-way power front seats with heating and ventilation, Intelligent Access with push-button starting, and Lincoln Drive Control with Comfort, Normal, and Sport driving modes for the steering and suspension settings. Adaptive HID headlights with automatic high-beam headlights are also standard, along with a set of 19-inch aluminum wheels.
The Premium Package contains a premium audio system with HD Radio, a navigation system, a Blind Spot Information System, a Cross Traffic Alert system, a heated steering wheel, and power adjustable pedals. The Elite Package adds to these features with heated rear seats, upgraded interior wood, massaging front seats, Active Park Assist, and a Lane Keeping System.
Additional options include extra-cost paint, 20-inch aluminum wheels, a dual-panel sunroof, and an Adaptive Cruise Control system with Collision Warning with Brake Support technology.
Engines and Transmissions:
A 304-horsepower, 3.7-liter V-6 engine is standard in the MKS, bolted to a 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The MKS is front-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive offered as an option.
The AWD system is included when buyers specify the optional twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine. This more powerful motor generates 365 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque, with peak torque on tap between 1,500 rpm and 5,000 rpm.
Fuel Economy Ratings:
Equipped with the standard V-6, the MKS returns 22 mpg in combined driving. Add AWD, and that figure drops to 21 mpg. Equip the MKS with the EcoBoost V-6 and it should return 20 mpg.
In crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Lincoln MKS earned an overall rating of 5 stars. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not finalized a rating for the 2014 MKS. Last year, this Lincoln was called a “Top Safety Pick.”
Every 2014 Lincoln MKS is equipped with Curve Control and Torque Vectoring Control to improve handling and responsiveness. A MyLincoln Touch infotainment system is also standard, and it includes Sync Bluetooth connectivity, Pandora Internet radio access, and audible text messaging service. The MKS also comes standard with 911 Assist, which helps to speed rescue following an airbag deployment.
Options for the MKS include multi-contour front seats with Active Motion massage, an Adaptive Cruise Control system with Collision Warning with Brake Support, a Blind Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Alert, and a Lane Keeping System with Lane Keeping Alert and Lane Keeping Aid systems. Active Park assist steers the MKS into a parallel parking space while the driver operates the foot pedals.
