The new Lexus NX 300h is a vehicle that might seem like it's for a really niche market, but it actually fills a lot of voids in the Lexus model lineup. Though Lexus has had plenty of sport utility vehicles, and a few well-chosen hybrids, the brand has never offered a hybrid compact luxury crossover until now. The 2015 Lexus NX 300h fits in between the CT 200h hatchback and the RX 450h SUV, offering a midpoint in terms of size and price. Lexus hopes this new luxury hybrid option will appeal to entry level crossover shoppers.

Benjamin Hunting, Road Test Editor for Autobytel, took the NX 300h for a test drive to gauge its appeal in its target market. The verdict? In terms of luxury, the NX 300h hits the mark. Though the exterior styling is aggressive, the experience is actually rather sophisticated. The interior is comfortable and the ride is quiet and smooth, thanks in part to a well tuned suspension system as well as the hybrid drivetrain. The NX 300h is powered by the Lexus Hybrid Drive's 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine, paired to an electric motor, for a total of 195 horsepower. The new 2015 Lexus NX 300h is expected to achieve combined fuel economy of about 33 miles per gallon.
