Changes for the 2014 Lexus IS 350 Sedan:
The Lexus IS 350 Sedan is redesigned for the 2014 model year, growing in size, adding modern technology, and receiving engineering upgrades designed to make it a genuine entry-level luxury sport sedan that can take on the best from Audi, BMW, Cadillac, and Mercedes-Benz.
The new 2014 IS 350 Sedan is sold in a single level of specification with a choice between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The IS 350C convertible model remains available, but it is based on the previous-generation version of the IS and is discussed separately.
Choose the IS 350 over the less powerful IS 250, and you’re rewarded not just with an extra 102 horsepower (!). The IS 350 also includes an 8-speed automatic transmission and bigger brakes, and can be optioned with a premium Mark Levinson audio system, a power rear window sunshade, and a Pre-Collision System with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.
Those items, like most of the IS 350’s optional features, are grouped into packages that can vary in terms of price and content by geographic region. Highlights include leather seats, heated and ventilated front seats, a navigation system, Lexus Enform telematics, upgraded interior trim, nicer wheels, and LED headlights.
Safety-related upgrades include a reversing camera, parking sensors, a Blind Spot Monitor, and Rear Cross-Traffic Detection in addition to the previously mentioned Pre-Collision System. Choose the available AWD system, and Lexus thoughtfully offers features useful for when the weather is frightful, like a heated steering wheel and an upgraded cabin heater, wiper de-icers, water repellant front window glass, and headlight washers.
The F Sport Package should prove popular with driving enthusiasts. In addition to unique styling and wheels, this option adds a sport-tuned Adaptive Variable suspension, a Sport + driving mode for the Drive Mode Select system, better brakes, stickier tires, sport-bolstered front seats, unique cabin trim, and gauges that Lexus claims are inspired by the LFA sports car.
Engines and Transmissions:
Every 2014 Lexus IS 350 is equipped with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine making 306 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 277 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,800 rpm. An 8-speed automatic transmission is standard with rear-wheel drive, while AWD models get a 6-speed automatic. Paddle shifters are standard.
Fuel Economy Ratings:
Despite a big infusion of power compared to the IS 250, the IS 350 remains relatively fuel-efficient. It gets 22 mpg in combined driving with rear-wheel drive, and 21 mpg with AWD. Premium fuel is required.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives the new Lexus IS a 5-star overall crash-test rating. As this summary is written, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not evaluated the IS 350’s crash protection.
