Changes for the 2014 Lexus IS 250 Sedan:
While the 2014 Lexus IS 250 Sedan is completely redesigned, the automaker forgot to swap out the least impressive part of the previous-generation model, and that’s the underwhelming 2.5-liter V-6 engine. Otherwise, the new 2014 IS 250 offers more of everything: space, comfort, style, and technology. It even handles better, especially in F Sport trim.
The 2014 Lexus IS 250 is sold in a single level of specification that can be upgraded with option packages and dealer-installed accessories. Lexus continues to sell the IS 250C convertible model, based on the previous-generation IS platform. This vehicle is discussed in a separate summary.
Highlights from the options list include leather upholstery, an upgraded version of the standard Bluetooth connectivity, Lexus Enform telematics and services, and a navigation system. The IS 250 can also be optioned with heated and cooled front seats, a power adjustable steering wheel, a reversing camera, parking assist sensors, a blind-spot information system, LED headlights, and bigger 18-inch aluminum wheels.
Select the optional all-wheel-drive system, and the IS 250 is offered with useful features like an upgraded heater, a heated steering wheel, a wiper de-icing system, headlight washers, and water-repellant front window glass that helps to improve visibility in the wet.
Many people are likely to choose the optional F Sport Package. More than just a cosmetic overhaul, the F Sport treatment includes a sport suspension, larger brakes, and bigger wheels with more performance-oriented tires. Not that you’re gonna be going very fast with the carryover V-6. Additionally, the F-Sport gets sport-bolstered front seats, unique trim, and special instrumentation.
Engines and Transmissions:
Lexus equips the new IS 250 with a lackluster 2.5-liter V-6 engine. It makes 204 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 185 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,800 rpm, and requires premium fuel. It is bolted to a 6-speed automatic transmission, delivering power to the rear wheels, and it is available with all-wheel drive. Now, this might be a proven powertrain, smooth-revving and durable, but when 4-cylinder engines can make more power on regular unleaded, something needs to change.
Fuel Economy Ratings:
In combined driving, the IS 250 with rear-wheel drive gets 24 mpg, while the IS 250 AWD is rated to return 23 mpg.
The new Lexus IS receives a 5-star overall crash-test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). As this summary is written, the IS has not been tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
Lexus Enform telematics offers subscription-based services including Automatic Collision Notification, an SOS Emergency Assistance Button, destination planning and assistance, stolen vehicle location service, and App Suite technology that pairs your smartphone with the IS 250’s infotainment system so that the owner can run popular applications through the vehicle’s controls.
