Cons: Cup holders on the dash are a bit out of reach and arm rests would be nice, like that in the Discovery model
Advice: Unless you have to be the first in your vehicle, wait a year, shop around, and you'll save thousands in the long run even with a handful of miles on it.The appearance first caught my eye but the obstacle course had me driving to the table to sign the papers. Of course, wanting the 'ultimate deal' had me placing the salesman on hold for 48 hours to see if I could beat his best pitch. Glad I did... I found my '02 Freelander in the Spring of '03, 500 miles away for $7,000.00 less and only 8,000 miles on the odometer which included a full warranty. Last Christmas we took this vehicle up north the day after a terrible snow storm. This vehicle proved its worth as it plowed through the snow and ice, leaving most others pulled to the side and struggling to make it to the top of a hill. The only complaint I have would be the brakes/rotors I had replaced (twice) since owning. The service department made that easy to overlook with the best service experience I have seen to date. Land Rover Louisville deserves much kudo's for their entire staff.
Cons: the quality
Advice: don't even think of buying the vehicle.after 65000 miles and numerous trips for service. my freelander need over 6500 dollars worth of repairs. this vehicle is garbage. DO NOT BUY IT.
Pros: Heated windshield, heated seats.
Cons: Low power and high maintenance
Advice: Run away! This car drives great for an SUV (aside from a real lack of power). It is very comfortable, and quiet and not at all trucky. The problem is the quality. In less than 3 years I have had to have all of the following REPLACED: engine (I am not kidding - they had to replace the ENTIRE engine); transmission; brakes (twice); sunroof motor; power window motor (twice); fuel pump; axles (broken when engine replaced); door lock/opener (twice). There was also some strange electrical problem. And my AM radio doesn't work. The guy at Land Rover service is GREAT but I am seeing WAY too much of him! The car is also very underpowered.
Pros: The Hardon Karmon stereo system
Cons: It was in the shop most of the time
Advice: Don't buy- Go buy a LexusDon't buy it. It's junk been the shop for everything. The only thing I could about this car is that the customer service at the dealer is good. I would never buy another landrover again. I should of buoght a used Lexus..
Cons: Fuel consumption is not bad
Advice: Its been a great carThe great appearance first attracted me to this car, but the test drive sold me, esp. the suspension which is much better than the 'crash-bang' ride quality of other 4x4's. The suspension really soaks up the bumps. The steering has a 'just right' feel, as do the brakes. The engine is smooth too. Last winter we put it to the test, and the 4x4 with four wheel traction control is the best - on serveral trips it was the only 4x4 to make it to the top of a steep icy road. We have 25,000 miles on it and have had no problems. We did not need new brakes at the 24K service. The dealer service has been friendly & professional.
Pros: Harmon Kardon Stereo System
Cons: The fact that it is always in the shop...
Advice: Dont get this car!I bought this car with 16000 miles on it and have had it for less than 2 months. In those 2 months, I have had the engine replaced, the transmission replaced, about 25 different sensors or company recommended recalls replaced. It has been into the dealership at least every week and sometimes takes more than a week to fix everything that goes wrong. Props to roadside service though, they have been helpful in the 6 times I have needed to use them in 2 months. I would definitely not recommend this car, and am thinking of getting rid of mine already.
Pros: heated leather seats
Cons: the REST of the vehicle
Advice: Investigate very carefully whether it has improved significantly since its debut model year.Test drives great--it's owning one that's a hassle. I don't know about later model years, but I've HAD IT with this car. The car has been to the dealership 4 times for the brakes (pads and rotors replaced 3 times), 3 times for the heat not working, 4 times or the sunroof, 2 times for the driver-side speaker . . .sadly enough, the list goes on! Looks great, rides great, but expect all the nice little options that you pay extra for to break down. Kinda frustrating.
