Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: The outside apperance of the car
Cons: The horrible take off speed .
Advice: Think twice about buying. I say this because they still have not fixed my car.Have had problems with a flash recall for almost the entire time I have had the car. Bought brand new and after the first couple of months, I thought the transmission was slipping. Come to find out there was a recall on some of the Spectra's. Lucky me. Well I am still waiting to have my car fixed. I am very unhappy with this car. Disappointed much since this was my FIRST NEW car. Would not buy again. Sorry fellows, fix my car or come up with a better deal to right what is wrong. I would love to hear from other people who has this problem.
Pros: The interior - The seats are comfortable and they look much better that most of the Detroit offerings
Cons: The transmission gearing. I'd like to see the rev's down around 1800 rpm's at 60 mph. The addition of a six speed would really help the fuel mileage.
Advice: Check with your insurer before you buy. Your premiums may be higher for this car than you anticipate.I bought a 2005 Spectra as a replacement for a Ford Festiva, (built by Kia for Ford). So far the car seems reasonable and for the price paid ($7995) I think I got good value for the dollars spent. It has been back to the dealer once for new struts (not failing, just noisy) and the service experience was painless. If I could hope for one change it would be the addition of a six speed transmission. In fifth gear at 70 mph the car is wound a little too tight. I feel if it had another gear the fuel mileage would be much better. One thing that is disappointing is that the Spectra is rated as a catagory seven risk so the insurance premiums are higher than average. For a driver under 25 the insurance cost may be a negative.
Pros: the 5spd, shifts nicely
Cons: the lack of KIA response
Advice: be prepared to fight with kia on this carI loved the looks of the car, however it was in the repair shop from about 400miles on, i have had to have the passanger airbag replaced 5 times now, the sensor was malfunctioning since day one. I like the way it handles on the road (seems to hug it). I do have to say that i am not pleased with the sound system in it. The gas milage sucks i get about 25 out of it and i live right off a main highway.
Advice: dont buy it.Well i bought the LX for my wife when it first came out in 2004. I liked the car at first until it started breaking down every week. The check engine light kept coming on and the car would sputter and jerk back and forth like it was running out of gas. i have taken it in several times so that they can replace the O2 sensors. this is the fifth time its been in for that problem. the mirror fell out of the visor, the speedometer says im going 50 MPH when i am really doing like 10 MPH, the car is a peice of junk i am never going to buy a KIA agian.
Pros: Almost everything is great including the sound system.
Cons: I wish it got a little better mileage although the mileage is bad.
Advice: Get it I don't think you can do any better, just make sure it is the new LD seriesI am totally satisfied with my new Spectra EX. The vehicle feels solid and tight just like my wife's Civic, in fact we like it better than the Civic. The fit and finish is great and it is very comfortable. It handles really well on the road. This car is an outstanding value and is a 100% improvement over the previous model. I would highly recoomend it to anyone who is looking for this type of vehicle.
Pros: Hmm, alot of them. The handling/steering of the car is tight, and has great get up and go.
Cons: Can't put anything here, cause there isn't anything I can think of that I don't like on the car.
Advice: I would highly recommend this car for anyone that is looking for an economical car, with a great engine, and alot of safety features. When I was searching for my FIRST new car, I looked at some other ones before the Kia Spectra. The dealership just got a program one in, with 20k miles (so I knew it was broken into). I test drove it, looked around the car, and made sure it was something I liked. I don't regret buying this car one bit! And the service from the dealership I bought it from is impecable.
Pros: The Engine, it loves being in the high RPM range.
Cons: Sound System, cheap feel of the steering wheel
Advice: Definately invest in the 5 spd, much more resposnive than the automatic.I LOVE This car! It's quiet, spacious, and its engine is all about high RPM's. This little car asks a little, but gives a lot. I bought the 5 spd manual, and this car is zippy. The interior is solid, my only complaint is that the steering wheel feels cheap, but that's it. And the sound system is somewhat lacking. But other than that I have been extremely pleased with the performance this car has, it has a better power to weight ratio, and more horespower than the equivalent Civic and Corolla, and can beat them off the line every time.
