Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: The all around quality of the car. Workmanship, materials, fit and finish is really great.
Cons: The 2.4L four cylinder engine. I wish I had bought the smoother running V-6 engine,.
Advice: Do not buy the 2.4L four cylinder engine in the Optima. Buy nthe V-6 engine for sure.I purchased a new 2007 Kia Optima EX, a few months ago. I'm somewhat satisfied with it. I bought the EX with all the options that Kia offers with this model. But I chose the four cylinder 2.4L engine. Which was a mistake on my part. The 2.4L four cylinder has pretty much ample power, and smoothness for this size car. Driving the car with all it's sound deadening insulation, the four cylinder 2.4L engine is very quiet from behind the wheel. But standing outside the car with the engine idleing, there is a loud steady 'gear growling' sound that comes from this four cylinder as it idles. It is not a quiet engine as it idles, compared with the smoothness of four cylinder engines from Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, Ford Fusion, and the Mazda6. I learned later the these 2.4L engines are made by Mitsibishi for Kia, and also for Chrysler and the Hyundai Sonata also. Had I knew this before I bought my Optima, I definately would have bought the Optima V-6 engine for sure, that is a very quiet V-6 engine. Even my friends have noticed the steady 'gear' growling at idle speed from my 2.4L Optima, and the first thing they ask is what's wrong with the engine. This has been a very disappointment for me with my Optima for choosing it. Had I to do over again I definately would not have purchased the 2.4L four. But have to live with my disatisfaction with my Optima.
Pros: BODY STYLE
Cons: THE TRANMISSION
Advice: KEEP LOOKINGMY 04 KIA IN ALL IS A DECENT CAR. I REALY LIKE THE LOOK.BUT THE TRANMISSION IS SLIPPING ON TAKE OFF NOT EVERYDAY BUT 2 3 TIMES A WEEK. SOMETIMES DANGEROUS AT A YIELD SIGN. IT HAS BEEN TO THE SHOP THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT CHANGE THE FLUID SO I DID, BUT DIDN'T FIX IT. SO I GUESS I HAVE TO TAKE IT BACK AGAIN!! ONLY HAS 30000 MILES ON IT KEEP LOOKING
Pros: The easy manual transmission.
Cons: The resale value.
Advice: Put as much down as you can because I lost about $5I loved this vehicle from the start. After having driven it for a while now (1.5 years) it does have two issues that are a problem...the get-up on wet roads and the resale value. It's as if it is not heavy enough in the front to create enough traction to take off on a wet road without spinning out for a second. Other than that...I love it! The handling is great, the standard features are fantastic, the look is classy but not overdone. It's a great car.
Pros: The KIa is a great looking car.It has quality feel to it.
Cons: Arm rest on console is too small.
Advice: Give it a look! This car drives nice. Has a smooth quiet ride. Roomy and comfortable interior.
Pros: The warranty.
Cons: The gas mileage/
Advice: Try it and you will buy it.It only took a ten minute test drive to sell me on this vehicle. It handled and rode great and is much quieter than our Toyota Avalon.
Pros: My favorite feature is power steering.
Cons: Gas mileage
Advice: This car is great in all aspects except for gas.The Kia Optima 2004 drives and looks wonderful but the gas mileage is not the best. I love the way it handles and also the way it stops on a dime. The driver's seat could push back a little further for more leg room or the car in whole could be a little longer.
Pros: Value, Quality, Features, Body style
Cons: Make improvements for faster acceleration, Perception of kia in U.S. ( that will change),
Advice: If you want value with the same bells as toyota and honda go far it-its simply a name tag difference, believe me!The kia optima is definitely a good car with remarkable quality. Kia is definitely headed in the right direction compared to previous models in the previous years as in 97's and 98's. This car is very reliable and stands on its on. I was going to buy a honda accord but a friend of mines convinced me to get this car, I am so happy too since I later found out that the accord has so many transmission issues (and they say its reliable). If they rate that car at a 9 I know this car is at least an 7/ or 8. Ask someone how old this company is, and find out that this manufactor is exactly considered to be a good one in other countries. See 'Kia' is new to the U.S. and people are afraid of something unknown or not as popular...as of yet anyways!!!! This car is going to continue to excel-and according to kia they plan to be within the top 10 manufactors by 2010.
