The Kia Forte helped create a new face and styling direction for Kia back when it was introduced in 2009, but other compact cars have come along since to make the Forte look old and dated. Based on a couple design sketches released by Kia, the next-generation Forte should be even more groundbreaking than the first with a sleeker, more aggressive styling. The 2014 Kia Forte sedan will go on sale early next year with the coupe (called the Forte Koup) and hatchback body styles following sometime thereafter.

Kia's official design sketches show the new Kia Forte from two different angles, and it is easy to see that big changes are in store for this little car. Taking cues from the styling Kia Rio, the sketch of the 2014 Kia Forte shows a cab-forward design with a raked windshield and a sporty, low-slung roofline. Kia's "tiger nose" grille is prominently displayed at the front of the new Forte with the headlights connecting to the grille mimicking the look of Kia's upcoming rear-wheel drive flagship sedan that will be called the Kia Quoris. The side view of the car hints at the new Forte's sharp body creases, flared fender arches housing V-spoke wheels and a chrome-trimmed eight-window daylight opening (DLO), while the back of the car reveals horizontal taillights, a decklid spoiler and an exhaust outlet integrated into the rear fascia.

The 2014 Kia Forte is said to be longer, lower and wider than the current model which should also give the new sedan a spacious interior. As evident by the new Kia Rio, we would expect plenty of technology to be offered on this new car including Kia's UVO infotainment, navigation, power folding mirrors and even automatic stop-start for the engine. No word as to what will power the new Forte, but it will probably share its powertrain with its cousin car, the Hyundai Elantra, with a 148-horsepower, 1.8-liter inline-four paired with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.

Although these are just design sketches, we don't expect Kia to pull many punches with the 2014 Kia Forte based on how popular this car is. Last year, the Kia Forte (also called the Kia Cerato in other markets and Kia K3 in the Korean market) was the Korean automaker's top-selling car with more than 445,000 cars sold globally. In the United States, the Forte was Kia's fourth biggest model last year with 76,295 units sold.
