Mopar Introduces New Jeep Camper Trailers

In step with a wave of new products scheduled to reach dealerships in the second half of this year, the Chrysler Group also has been working aggressively to build interest in its brands in some relatively innovative ways. This includes leveraging its Mopar accessories division for products like a special-edition 2010 Dodge Challenger, and now there's a new Mopar debut aimed directly at Jeep customers: Uniquely designed Jeep camper trailers that were built specifically for off-road enthusiast.

These pop-up-style campers were developed with numerous cues taken from the Jeep Wrangler, both in terms of design and performance. From a styling standpoint, the taillights, fender flares, badging and hood tie-downs all show the Wrangler family resemblance, and the wheels are the same 17-inch cast-aluminum shoes worn by the Wrangler Rubicon. Not only does this add some serious Jeep style, but it also means that most Jeeps' spares can be used on the trailers as well.

Two different trailer setups are available. The entry-level Jeep Trail Edition camper uses a strong but lightweight all-aluminum construction and a torsion-bar/trailing-arm suspension to ensure agility and durability while being towed off-road, attributes further enhanced by 32-inch BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tires and 12 inches of ground clearance.

The Jeep Extreme Trail Edition camper raises the bar higher with a heavier frame for added strength, 15 inches of ground clearance, 35-inch Goodrich Mud Terrain tires, high-mounted fenders, and a full underbody skid plate. The Extreme camper is also available with a 360-degree-axis pintle hitch.

On the inside, both products feature versatile interiors with a queen-sized bed and a separate fold-out sofa that can be used as a bed as well, allowing the campers to sleep up to four adults. Room for gear is provided via an integrated storage cabinet, while a stowable table adds further functionality. Thanks to a 110-volt power source, owners can even enjoy some of the comforts of home no matter how far from home they actually are, and it's all wrapped up by a premium canvas enclosure with window screens and privacy shades.
